Hock Injection Options - Arthramid and/or Steroids

My horse is sooooo much better behind 8 weeks or so after having Arthramid in his hocks. He’s like a different horse behind but he now seems to be struggling a bit in front now. I do wonder if the extra power and impulsion he has may have stressed him in front. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Mine had front lameness due to his hock before treatment. It can be compensatory but can also be something unrelated.
I'd discuss with your vet

I had my mares hocks injected last week with arthrymid only as she has ems and has had laminitis a few years ago and I just didn’t want to risk it. I had been advised by an osteopathic vet to get it done after he had seen her a couple of times. She also had tightness in her neck, pole and shoulders which he said all stemmed from the hocks. I am really hoping it helps- as the vet that injected her said it wasn’t always as useful in treating hocks

I’ve always used steroids in hocks with good results but have recently used arthramid for a coffin joint medication under vets advice due to its location being close to the laminae. I’d probably be looking at arthramid in your situation though as your horse has EMS history.

Arabi had arthramid in his hocks and coffin joint it made a huge difference to him that was the summer of 2022 and his still ridden but mainly just hacking, I don't think the school surface was doing him any favours as his got multiple things going on now.
