Last Thursday (8/8) got my 4 horses in to check over and the youngest a 7 year old had a cut right on the point of the hock it looked like a paper cut. I guess it was the edge of a hoof / shoe
There was swelling not the hock joint but just on the point of the hock .
As I was off on holiday for a week with a live in sitter doing horses dogs and cats I called the vet who came out to take a look .
He said the cut wasn't deep but there was swelling from bruising on the point of the hock .He said there was no involvement of the joint at all but to be on the safe side gave 5 days antibiotics and 5 days anti inflammatory.
Got back today and the cut is all clean and healed hock is cool and not sensitive but there is still a bit of an egg on the point of the hock .
Anyone had experience of this any idea how long it will take to go down he is not sensitive on it and is completely sound has been off powders for 3 days.
They live out with a huge open barn off the fields so they can come and go as they please but have shelter from sun rain and flies in the barn.
The Vet thought that it was best he was moving around so stick to leaving them where they are rather than stabling.
He has beautiful clean legs and hocks here's hoping he doesn't end up with a capped hock!!!.
Anyone?
