Horses mane looks an absolute mess thanks to my trialwith a solo comb and scissors.... and her hating it being pulled and platted etc...

(she will tollerate it being brushed but anything else forget it.)

Ive been considering hogging her for about a year now....but not quite brave enough.

Shes 15.2, warmblood x cob (or something like that....unless your the vets and shes a "british warmblood)! :cool::D

Shes quite heavy - we do dressage (badly) and jumping (even worse) - so mainly for dressage to make her smarter (we dont plat for above reasons)!

She's lovely! I'd leave it and perfect the art of solo comb and scissors, it IS possible, just needs practice. Hogging is an aquired taste and not without it's own problems of upkeep! But a lovely hoss will look good either way.

That's a real sitting on the fence reply isn't it?? :D
 
She looks a lot like an IDx I used to have and I hogged him :D It can really make a difference to the overall impression of the horse.

I'd just be sure before you do it as a hogged mane will highlight a short/long/weak neck and make her head look a bit bigger. This is not a criticism, only what I've noticed from various hogged horses and your mare looks like she could need some topline along her neck.

But the worst that can happen is that you don't like it and she looks like a Fjord until it grows long enough to do something with it again :)

I'd go for it - post photos if you take the plunge!

these pics are a little older tbh and shows her fatter than she normally is in summer ! :o

shes been out of work for a few months so looks fat and unfit...

will find some pics of summer when she looks much better

I am sorry but I don't think she has the neck to carry off a hog. As someone said earlier it will make her look like she has a huge head.

Can you get someone very good at pulling manes to Rudy it and pull it short with a bit of sedalin?

haha shes a lovely stamp (imo!) for that... but i absolutely hate showing lol!


I aspire to do novice dressage (affiliated) one day, but no showing as i dont have the patience lol!




ella - eta - no problem - all opinions welcome :)

never had a hogged horse before and think it may be easier than being squished everytime i want to make it look neater lol!
 
I reckon she would look ok hogged - but leave the forelock. She has quite a big head, and I think the forelock going would accentuate that.

Nice mare - proper workmanlike sort. I like her!

shes the "horse of a lifetime" and a walking vet bill :D

ive trimmed (ruined) her forelock with a pair of scissors... so would happily leave that to grow...


can i do BD without being told off for no mane?? (this is another ploy never to plat again lol as im crap!)
 
i dont think she has the neck to carry it off either, maybe a bit more muscle and she would look lovely hogged as she has the cobby head for it. I love hogged horses :)
 
I think she would look perfect hogged if you can just work on building that neck a little. In the first puc I can see she might look a little weak if you take it off. Pretty girl!

she looks weak in those photos i totally agree - in both she was actually out of work for a while (shes been off and on for 2 years sadly)...

still trying to find a "fit as a butchers!" lol pic :)
 
ohhh this is getting very divided hahaha !!!


ifi its any help - her mane is of varying thicknessdue to rug rubs and just generally hacking lol
