Thats Beau been home a week now and he has been soooo quiet its like hes another horse - possibly as I have taken him off cereals! He is working well and I think that he has grown up a lot!
Took a few pics of him tonight, he was rather curious as to what I was up to! Hence the funny standing position!

I've been told to hog him.....................not 100% sure about it. What do you think?

I had this dilemma a few months ago. My boy had the most hideous mane and hated me doing anything to it. I went mad one day and hogged him. Should have done it years ago. It suits him and makes life so much easier!

No,no,no! They were given manes for a reason! I am growing Clyde's mane. He was hogged. I hate it. In the three months he has been with me, it has grown really well and should look gorgeous next year.

Hog it!! I think it would suit him loads he would look so smart!! If you don't like it can always grow it back!!

ooooooh

sexy neddy just the type I'd like (don't often see a pic of a neddy on here that makes me think they look the sort I'd like to own

) How tall? If you say between 14.2 - 15.3hh I'll scream right size too

Does he hunt??

Hog him if you don't mind the mane growing back in a funny fashion should you want it to grow again. My dad hogs his horse for the hunting season and then lets it grow for summer to help keep flies off. If a TB can look good hogged so can Beau (not that he's ugly now but bet he'd look even sexier

) Lots of horses that hunt with the local pack are hogged.

i hogged my old pony who looked exactly like your boy(but had the most unmanegable mane in the world and had a phobia of mane pulling) but we left the forelock in, it looked really nice

i would say yes, the pics hide his mane, so he looks hogged already, looks nice after all it will grow back if you don't like it. Would have a cool mohawk for a while also :P

Lol Runaway, hes 15.3hh and yes he does hunt!!! Jumps everything and goes and goes - which is ok as long as you can figure the brakes out and your in front! lol.
We believe he was born adn bred to hunt as he had splints

from 4 years old!

My mate came up and rode him tonight as we finally found a saddle that fits, and boy is he a different horse! He was going like a propper dressage neddie..........so kinda swaying towards having a mane to plait, will just recruit my super mane pulling sister to thin it out. Manes are one thing I just cant do!

His mane isnt unmanagable though, just gets greasy skin but I brush it every day and give him a super groom once a week. He hates it really long - well he hates it getting in the reins.

I went against the majority. I put no. He's lovely but he doesn't look heavy set enough when I think of hogged cobs.

My friend has a horse very like him. What's his breeding?

He's Shire X Irish Cob apparently. Although it was debated whether it was Draft. When he is feathered he looks Shire, but its harder to tell when he is naked!

He is a wee bit over what should be his ideal weight, but I dont htink he looks too fat, and I dont want him any bigger than that as he was 800kg++ when I got him!!! And he looked like a cow - he really doesnt suit being big and hairy!
This is him in Oct 2004. he had lsot a bit of weight

Gosh you look a dot up there! He's lovely. Otis, my friend's horse, has no breeding history on his passport. Has huge chunky boned legs but isn't at all feathered. We assume from his head he's a cob x of some sort.

Awwww...H elooks just like my Benson!

HOG HOG HOG HOG HOG HOG HOG HOG HOG HOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beany is hogged so you can look at his piccies and see if you like as they do look rather similar! I'm pretty sure he has shire in him as well with a mixture of something else...not sure what though!!

I probably wouldn't hog just for looks, especially if they already have a nice mane. Having said that, I had to hog Chex for sweet itch last summer, and he really suits it. But he never had a nice mane - half was really thick and half was really thin! I did plan on letting it grow out, but only half of it grew back! So hogged he shall stay lol

I have 2 cobs, both are hogged as they have to be to show, its great, no plaiting etc, I cant imagine them with manes. Your boy in the ridden pic looks fine with a mane, why eactly do you want to take it off? Im all for hogs but ike manes too!! Just rememberthey take ages to grow back!!

No dont hog!!!!!

I think he looks smart with a lovely neat mane.

Not saying he wouln't look good hogged but i do prefer horses with a bit of mane.
