Yeah that's really what's prompted the hogging consideration. His mane is so thick, it's over an inch wide across his neck. I rake and pull it as much as I can, but still there is simply so much that they are fat and blend together! The ones at the bottom are better only because that's where his rug's rubbed his mane out lol!Otherwise i think he would look better with wider spaced plaits, they look a bit crowded in the first picture (although they are a nice distance at the bottom, just a bit squished up as you get further up the neck)
But be warned, I posted a picture after I hogged my mare 2 years ago and got this response!

BTW she is still hogged, still doesn't do more than 3 shows a year, and hasn't yet been eaten by flies. Remarkable when you consider all the advice I ignored!

I'd say nay to hogged manes in general as I like hairy cobs.
However, I think your lad would look good hogged.
He is gorgeous, just my type of horse.
