Did anybody find the ground conditions hard?

Spoke to my instructor last night who went and said it was rock hard in the SJ warm up, and his horse slipped on the flat in the XC

Both ok though and completed.

Cant believe ground is still hard at this time of year!

I'm only about 20 miles from Oasby to the east and up until Monday our ground has been solid - it's damp on top now but when I tried to put in a plastic fence stake this morning (had gone wobbly) I had trouble getting it in (and snapped one foot off it in the process!)

the sj warm up was hard as was the xc warm up, but didnt find the conditions bad in either the arena or the xc-which i didnt go hell for leather over for that reason...however i was on the second day so whether it had cut up slightly or not i dont know!

However what disgusted me was the people who deemed it necessary to canter and canter around their horses in the sj warm up which was hard, and jump and jump and jump...then in the xc warm up gallop round and round and round. Especially as there was only about 30mins between sj and xc..so the horses hadnt gotten that cold by the time you had changed tack/clothes and got back on. I gave her a quick trot around and cantered over the fence a few times..then had a quick burt of canter before setting off.

Definitely on the firm side but seemed to ride OK - Merry didn't feel as though he was jarring (although he likes firm ground anyway).

SJ collecting ring was the worst bit because there was no grass cover. I didn't do very much in the XC collecting ring.
