Holding a horse

Just proceed with other viewings.

Are the original folks first time horse buyers or inexperienced? If yes then they may being a bit cautious but if not I would say there is something going on behind the scenes that you don't know about. Whether that be another horse they also like or issues with their livery yard having space who knows what going on but I would be a bit skeptical about a third viewing without a vetting being arranged unless this third viewing to do something more specific with the horse that has not been covered in the first two viewings.
 
If they haven't paid any deposit then I would make sure other people are coming to view.

If I had viewed a horse twice and really liked it I would have been on to my vet in the car on the way home!
 
I think you need to explicitly tell these buyers that whoever pays a deposit first will hold the horse. Although they sound so dozy that even a deposit might not make a difference with them!
 
Sounds to me like they are viewing other horses and can't decide which to buy.

Every horse I've bought I've left a deposit and called vet the next day to arrange a vetting. I don't like messing people about so I think it's only fair to get on with things especially if it's a good horse and they have other people wanting to view.

OP - if your weekend viewers like the horse, you like them and they leave a deposit then I'd sell to them. I wouldn't be holding the horse for the other people.
 
No of course I have no problem with anyone who comes to view. They are not considered a time waster. Took a viewing today after all. What would people's view be on this:
Person booked a viewing on behalf of friend. Rode horse on the flat and jumped if. Decided it was perfect for friend. Left deposit. Then 11pm that night said they wanted to collect horse next day to bring to their vet but stay till Monday or Tuesday till vet was free to vet.
I said I was not comfortable with my horse leaving overnight or 2 nights without being vetted 1st and without being paid in full 1st. That's just the way it's done where I live. I said I have no problem with any vet in the country vetting the horse but as long as it's done before it goes. Is this reasonable? I think so. I don't to seem overbearing bur he means a lot to me and he's mine until he's sold.

I also told them if this was a problem I would fully refund deposit. I have another 15 people interested.
 
If they want a vetting done their vet needs to go to your yard, I would definitely not let them take the horse off the yard!

Nope. I'd feel really uncomfortable with that whole scenario. I'd keep booking the viewings in. Sounds like you have a lot of interest so you can afford to be a bit choosy about who your horse goes home with.
 
I'd keep on with the viewings. The thing with the horse for a friend just sounds dodgy and I definitely wouldn't let the horse leave the yard until fully paid, vetted or not...and if they want to vet should be done at yours before purchase.

In terms of the 1st people a 3rd viewing seems excessive. If I was them and as unsure for a specific reason eg had a bad experience, 1st horse etc I would probably explain what was going on to the seller...but then again I'm a genuine honest type.
 
I'd definitely expect some form of communication from the first people, and at least to have booked a vetting or paid a deposit! Sometimes vets are busy and it can be a little wait if you want a specific vet, but at least get it booked!

I understand sometimes circumstance means you have to hold a horse for someone but I'd be expecting some kind of assurance from the buyer before I held off any more viewings.

Now when I bought my last one, it did end up that it was nearly 3 weeks between the first viewing and me having him vetted/bringing him home, and the owner did hold off all viewings for me. However, I was very up front with the situation (we were due to go on holiday 3 days after my second viewing when I decided I wanted him, and couldn't get a vetting arranged before then) and had proof that the vetting was booked for the day I got back. It also helped she was in no rush to sell and wanted the right home for him, so was very accommodating (more than I would have expected from any seller to be honest!) So I think if they're not giving a reason for not even having a vetting booked or not paying some kind of deposit, then there may be something dodgy going on there...
 
They want a 3rd viewing?! I think I would say no to that as it is all taking up your time. They clearly haven't decided and have said one thing an done another already (said they would arrange vet and haven't)

I hope you get someone more normal come along as the latest seems odd too, and absolutely no chance the horse would be leaving the yard prior to vetting and transfer of full funds.
 
I remember when I bought Apache, I didn't leave a deposit, and rang the vets, the vet said that they would book this directly with the vendor, and I'm sure there was 10 days between be arranging the vetting and it happening.

When I chased they said that they where very busy, and as it was the owner of the practice that was going to do the vetting I was happy to wait for him.
 
Having thought about this a bit more I think I would be inclined to call the first buyer and ask them directly what they are hoping to achieve with a 3rd viewing as you were expecting a vetting and base whether you allow it to go ahead based on their response.
