Does anyone still do this? We now tend to twitch instead for clipping and pulling manes. Just wondering if anyone else has done it as its something I do not think I have ever heard anyone mention on here.

I have done for worming etc but to do it instead of twitching is madness imo

. Tongues are delicate things and pretty important to the owner so no , I wouldnt. I did see a tongue being twitched on a hunt yard- I was horrified. I left the week after

There is a bone in the tongue which is very easily broken, inexperienced vets and dentists have been known to do this, as Mairi says they are delicate don't do it!!

As mentioned it was something in the dim and distant past. But something that is still used by the equine dentist and for worming. I remember as a child holding it. All our horses seemed to be fine and funny even being twitched now none of them are head shy.

Only do it if I want to check teeth. I do hold ears to calm horses, my vet thought it was a load of nonsense until he had to jab a horse that is known to be a pig about it, with my ear holding he was as quiet as a lamb (mind you it could just be he was having a good day LOL!)

Wouldnt do it, and hate ear twitching. Will only twitch the lip if completely necessary. Pinching a bit of skin on the neck often helps I've found!!
