Cass had her 12 week scan on Tuesday after the operation to cut her anular ligament and to assess for stem cell implants into the hole in her SDFT. The scan showed that the hole has reduced to .8mm and the vets decided that to implant stem cells, the needle would be thicker than the hole and do more damage than it is worth, so yipeeeeee, we can continue our rehab programme and can also use the school for no more than 10 mins initially. Working long and low, not asking for too much too soon and we can resume lessons in around 8 weeks.

I know how Jet-Set feels now, Im completely paranoid about starting lateral work again!

Thought I would post this update for those in a similar position and looking for hope

Great news. My mare is off for another scan in a week - similar injury by the sound of it - annular ligament and SDFT.

She's had 10 months off now, the annular ligament has returned to normal, but as of August scan the SDFT hadn't healed any more since the April scan (when it had healed about 50%) and she was still lame.

She's now had a course of shockwave and I am tentatively hopeful that it (or more time) has worked, as on a work up last Friday she was SOUND!!!! YAY!

Its certainly all stressful isn't it, and whilst I am really looking forward to getting back on her hopefully, I am also, like you, going to be soooo paranoid and stressed about re-injury!

Glad your mare is doing so well though, long may it continue.

That's great news Llwyncwn. Where about are you from with a name like that has to be in Wales somewhere?

I'm about to start walking out in hand with my mare after 8 weeks box rest for an sdft injury, she'll have another scan in 4 weeks and after that my vet hopes i can get back on board. He's a straight up vet and tells it how it is- this morning he said her tendon was looking "bloody fantastic" so I'm hopeful that soon I'll have a horse I can actually ride.
