Hi
I have a 18 year old 14.2 pony who has just been diagnosed after scans with a hole in his tendon near the sesamoid.
He first went lame, only in trot in August and I had the vet out after a week of field rest. He had 2 weeks of bute twice a day with just walk work which made no difference (guessing arthritis due to his age) and started on a joint supplement which made no difference. So, off to the vets for a lameness work up, inc nerve blocks and xrays which indicated a shadow on his navicular bursa and he was put on navilox, had a course of adequan and remedial hoeing with pads and filler. Not a lot of improvement after 6 weeks so he went back to the vets this week for more tests and the scan found a hole in his tendon. There has been no heat or swelling at all in his leg and the vet reckons that his lameness was improving (I couldn't see it but then, am I really subjective enough?)
Anyway, he had shockwave treatment and will have 2 more courses of that 2 weeks apart, is turned out in the smaller field (stabling makes him stiff, hence 1st diagnosis of arthritis).
Sorry so long
but can anybody share their experiences and the eventual outcome - please
