Is it just me or to jods just not seem to last like they used to?

I had several old pairs that all seemed to wear out at the same time, so I bought a few new pairs. Bearing in mind that I have had the old ones for probably 5 years or more, all the new ones seem to have gone into holes either between the legs or around the fly area in a matter of months. Either that or the zip to the pocket has broken.. and they are all different brands.

Can anyone recommend some good hard wearing jobs that come in larger sizes send won't break the bank.

Thanks:-)

Nope, not just you. Mine go in the crotch, mainly.
Some with a fair bit of use over not much time, granted...but some with what I would call light wear. Whereas I've got jods that are in one piece that I've had a decade  Not made to last anymore.

I am loving my Horsewear denim ones, had one pair for about a year and the 2nd pair were a christmas present. So not had them that long, but they are wearing well and come up like new when washed and not overly expensive. Practically live in them (outside of work), gutted when they are both on the washing line at the same time and have to wear one of my other pairs.

I really must get a life or just buy anoher pair! :o

I've always had the problem and thought it was my big bum stretching them a bit too much :o

I've never had the problem since I started investing in Pikeur ones, they last for ever despite daily use and regular washing - but they do break the bank I'm afraid!

Denim ones do seem to stand up to a bit more abuse, I guess because the fabric is thicker. I have 2 denim Pikeur pairs that get rotated and I wear them every day, sometimes all day, and ride 1 or 2 horses a day in them.

I have had had exactly the same experience, I had some cheap rydale ones that virtually disintegrated in front of my eyes! Just goes to show you get what you pay for! I have bought some dublin ones that are pull on, my thinking was that at least the zip and hook thing can't break! These have been fab and are actually the most comfortable trousers I own, out of all my clothes:D

My favourites are Dublin superfits – they are really comfortable, have lasted well and have an outside zip pocket that’s perfect for your phone. Also had a pair of Dublin pull ons that lasted for years. Not massively cheap (£35 if I remember correctly) but not extortionate either.

I’ve also got a couple of pairs of Requisite two tone jods from Robinsons (around £25 mark) and they have also lasted really well. Only downside is they don’t have knee pads but I find I don’t miss them. Pair I bought from Harry Hall for had two holes in them after a couple of rides.

Harry Hall in particular seem to have gone downhill since I was a kid :(

At the cheaper end, I've found Robinsons' own Requisite Robust jodhs to stand up brilliantly - only £15 and I was v surprised. About to replace them after four years but only because mine were black and lost an argument with some white gloss paint :o

Otherwise, Hac Tac's denim ones also seem virtually indestructable - I've got an 'inherited' pair that will be about 15 years old now...! So assuming the quality is still the same and they haven't gone the way of Hunters, I'd definitely have those again.

I've found that my jods last a lot longer now that I'm not using a HM seatsaver. They were wearing through in a matter of months. Most hardwearing I've found and also thin enough for summer use are Mark Todds, though the zips do go if one eats too many cakes. Their Alexandra range are flattering too.

Some of my ancient ones are Robinsons Something or other (the cheap ones that used to come in about 4 plain colours), but I've had more recent Robbies ones that have fallen apart in no time and the last 2 pairs I had from there have been really badly cut and badly fitting.
And I've got a pair of Dublin that were pretty pricey that went through in pretty much record time, that faux suede stuff that on the full seat is wearing through. I wanted to send them back but the shop I got them from closed.

I'm not doing anything drastic to them either, and my saddle isn't sandpaper covered! The quality just doesn't seem to be there now.

I think denim must be the way forward, but I dont like denim jods!!

It's funny how your priorities change, in my younger days I would have thought nothing of spending £35 on trousers just to wear on a Friday night, now I think it's much better spent on jods that are worn day in day out. Going out clothes come from tesco now!

Im sat in a pair of Harry Hall, I don't think I've had them a month and they have got in holes all down the seams ! They are the right size, the size up was far too big- They have been used quite a lot in that time but none of my other jods have faired so poorly :( will never buy them again and they weren't exactly cheap !
