I'm going off on a much aticipated break soon, and obviously need cover for my chap, he's in at night, so will need mucking out, rugs changing, feet picking, the odd brushing off, but he will need his sheath cleaning out every day/2 days max, not a pleasant job! also the usual hay/feed/water etc, doesn't necessarily need riding but fine if anyone on the yard (within reason) wanted to, so, how much is a reasonable figure to pay? I have someone lined up, and she's just said, oh, get me a drink in sometime, but I'm going to need 17 days of cover, so not happy for her to do all that for nothing! I spoke to the YM, who said she'd charge £5 per day, which I think sounds fine, what would anyone else expect to pay or think I should be paying?

Maybe you could offer to do her horse in return next time she went away instead of paying and get her a nice gift from your hols? That's what I always used to do when we were at a livery yard.

I pay £15 a day per horse for full care, this includes the day to day stuff, mucking out, rugs, feeds, turn out bring ins. Not ridden. If you can get a mate to do it for £5 a day, bite her hand off!

:-) thanks for replies - she works alongside the YM, and also shares a horse on the yard - sadly time wouldn't allow me to return the favour even if she had her own, so prefer to pay her to do it - plus I know she'll take no agro from him, and it'll be done properly! Sounds like I'm heading along the right lines for it moneywise - £15? blimey - that would pay for another holiday!! Mind you... the sheath cleaning isn't much fun... and nor is mucking him out, neanderthal of a horse... eugh
