Hi all,

I am planning on taking my mare on holiday (1 hour away) for 9 days in a couple of weeks. Going to make myself a checklist of what to bring. Hay and bedding is provided at the yard, will bring hard feed and her Regumate. Would really appreciate some suggestions of things I may forget!

Thank you :)

Assuming it's a hacking holiday, off the top of my head I think you'll need as a minimum for the horse:

T/O rug
Cooler rug
High viz
Grooming kit
Enough spare saddle cloths to rotate when dirty & sweaty
Spare girth
More hoof picks than you'll think you'll need ?
First aid kit
Bucket, sponges and shampoo to wash down with
Flyspray
Flymask or fly fringe
Spare headcollar and leadrope
Suncream if lots of white bits
Hoof boots (if used)
Maps of local area & a map holder

Probably missed loads!

To add to the above, I take complete spare bridle, extra reins, stirrup leathers and spare girth. Spare headcollar and rope.
1st aid kits for human and horse.
Obtain numbers for at least 2 x local vets (take credit card, call one before you go, some won't come out to new clients out of hours) and farriers. Shoe pulling kit.
Feed buckets, water buckets, rubber gloves for skipping out.
Human: own pillow, each set of clothes individually packed in plastic bags plus extra socks and underwear (enough for daily changes in v wet weather)
Phone charger
Favourite snacks, sweets and beverages.
Bum bag to take bits and bobs out riding.
2 sets waterproofs plus winter coat.

Hopefully you wont need the last suggestions! Have a good trip.

Thank you very much Everyone!! We’re headed to the beach for the first time so the waterproofs will likely be needed! If I ’forget’ or break anything it’ll give me an excuse to give the local tack shops a visit. ?
