Am going to look at a Holsteiner mare tonight to potentially purchase and wondered if anyone here had experience of this breed and could give me any tips on what to look out for?

Overall I am looking to buy an allrounder that I can initially compete in dressage with and then jump and possibly ODE in the future (all unaffiliated). So far have been looking at TBs and TBxs but can't seem to find the perfect one for me so am moving onto warmbloods and comparing... So any opinions/advice welcome please!

I know of an excellent Holsteiner x TB mare who is currently competing at Novice BE. They are as far as I can tell of excellent nature and very capable under saddle. Definately worth a look... good luck!

Oooh that sounds good to me! Thanks.

From looking them up on the internet they seem to have a good record internationally in all disciplines....just wondered if anyone had any first hand experience since I will have to school this mare practically from scratch.

Can't wait to try her out now - getting excited!

My friend has a Holstiener x gelding - he is by Zwinglii who is by Maximillian Saluut. Considering he was used to cover mares until the age of 4 when he was gelded he is one of the nicest natured horses I know and he is very capable dressage wise but perhaps wouldnt have the scope to jump except for a play and would run out of puff to do XC.

His mum was an Irish Draught mare so I suppose he is more a tepid than warm blood and he really isnt the sharpest knife in the drawer but his nature makes up for it.

I have one! A mare - shes got a massive jump (doing fox 2nd rounds this season) and moves well, could do any discipline really. And shes got an amazing temperamant too, really kind and a tryer.
I am a massive fan of them mind you!

I have a H x TB who has won inhand as 1 yo, 2 yo and 3 yo in sport horse and hunter broodmare classes! They are real quality well built horses, mine is for sale (4 yrs, unbroken as of now), PM me if interested!

I have a TB x H, and hes the best thing ever. Mine is a lamb on the ground but a lion under saddle. I current;ly BSJA him, he will jump any xc and his movement is lovely and straight but hes too upight at the mo to do stressage.lol. Seems to have got the both of both breeds

Thanks everyone for the comments and I can see why you all love the breed so much - the moment I saw this mare I fell for her!! So I have left a deposit and if she passes the vetting (which i am very confident she will) she is mine!

So very very happy! They are a beautiful breed and I can't wait to get her home.
