I’ve seen enteroliths before but the one someone just brought in to the Antiques Roadshow, taken from some poor dead pony that had worked in a jute mill, was enormous - perfectly round and the size of family size Christmas pudding (took me a while to think of something to compare it to! It was huge, basically.
 
Sorry - they’re essentially rocks that turn up in horses guts - yes, that’s a thing, promise - maybe less rare than you’d imagine because much of the time equines have them without any symptoms….

  • Enteroliths are intestinal stones that form within the colon and can obstruct the intestine, resulting in colic.
  • They can form as the result of many factors, including certain diets, breed predisposition, and/or management practices, but it is not well understood why some horses develop enteroliths and others do not.
  • The only successful treatment for horses with colic due to enteroliths is surgical removal.
