Morning:) a bit of a random post, lol. Is anyone else like me? I never go on holiday, I hate being away from home, I would miss my dogs and ponies too much. A perfect day for me is a lovely hack on my boy followed by a latte at home with my feet up, lol.
With winter approaching fast I hear many people talking about booking holidays for next year, I am lucky tho that we live 20 mins from the sea, but tend to go more in the winter when it's quiet and we can walk the dogs on the beach. What's your idea of bliss??:))

I'm with you on this one. There's no place like home, would miss the horses & dogs plus would worry that they were being taken care of properly. Did the annual hols thing when I was much younger & I don't miss it at all. Not having holidays helps to justify the expense of my hobbies . Ha ha

I don't like going away either. Before horses I used to have 5 holidays a year at least, so feel like I have got it out of my system lol. However my OH would like to go away, so I will have to at some point. Horses I won't worry about as my friend will take good care of them but finding someone for the 5 dogs will be a lot harder. One is an ex pound dog who then did 6 months or so in rescue kennels, I would feel too guilty putting him in boarding kennels.

I never even liked going away when I was young! Strange girl:)

It's good you have a good friend to look after your horses! I sympathise with you about your dogs, we have 3, one is a little westie who is devoted to my daughter, she would pine away if we put her in kennels!

Im a real homebird as well. I do go on a couple of holidays a year but its on the understanding its only a week at a time, I just cant be away from home for longer than a week and if it was just me I wouldnt bother with holidays.

I'm fairly similar, i prefer to potter around at home in my free time too- playing with my animals, doing some gardening, messing around on the quads in the fields- there is always something to do here! I know some people who just HAVE to go on at least one 'foreign' holiday a year- but i am fine with not having that and just staying closer to home. I do have a big holiday now and again (think my last 'proper' one was New York 3 years ago), but i am more than happy with a few long weekends down to Cornwall each year- and even then if i don't manage that it doesn't bother me. However, i do have an ongoing fantasy about going on a ranch holiday- something which i have been planning for ages but just haven't pinned down quite yet! :)

Despite not being bothered about going away we did 6 weeks in NZ earlier this year (and got married), it was really hard to find someone to come and live in to care for our four neds and 3 dogs at a reasonable cash payment cost. We did find a lovely lady who did a grand job despite leaving her hubby to care for her own managerie. Some people I contacted charged such a lot of money to house sit, considering the chores for the animals don't take that long to do each day and then they have the freedom to come and go in between the cost was too prohibitive for us to take more regular breaks. Anyone that wants a break in Norfolk, let me know!!

My BF is like you OP. There are a couple of places he would like to go (away from the UK) but otherwise, he has no desire to leave this country. He's happy to go away from home for a few days, but equally he is happy spending his holiday simply at home. I'm the polar opposite and have a real wanderlust. My list of places I want to visit is never ending, I adore travelling, seeing new places, meeting new people, trying new food. I like to come home after a holiday but I'm continually looking at where to go next. I don't miss my horse in the slightest when I'm away and I'm sure we both enjoy the break!

Every day is a holiday for me just being with my dogs and horses/ponies. You can keep the airports and waiting queues, and disappointing hotels

I do love to get away, but only to other places that I consider to be home to me. Places that I feel home if that makes sense. Even then, despite enjoying myself, I am always also wishing I was home. I'm a right PITA with it as well. If I know we have nothing on, I really look forward to getting back from doing the horses and snuggling in front of the telly after dinner. If I get in and people are there or we get a late invite somewhere I am like a bear with a sore head. I actually have to tell myself to lighten up and get over it, lol.

Then again, I am very happy in my own company. I don't need people around me in order to feel happy and content. That's one of the reasons Dan and I get on so well I think too...we are both happy in our own company and being alone, so neither of us annoys the other other person with neediness and also...it means we are together just because we want to be with each other, not because we need it.

There is no place like home, no bed like your own and no better way to rest than to slob out with the curtains drawn and your favourite treat :-)
