I am a start up pet boarding service and have run into a problem wherein my Homeowner's insurance refuses to cover me while operating this home business.

It seems, through the quotes I have been getting, that the business will double the cost of my homeowners insurance and I will need to get an addition rider for liability?

Am I missing something here? It would cost me over £600 per year for this as extra. Sound right?

cheers,
Laura

You would need business cover on your homeowners insurance which limits the companies you can choose from plus you need care, custody & control of animals cover & recommend some vets fees cover as well. You will need to talk to a specialist for this as houshold insurance won't cover these risks. - probably £200 odd per year. I would expect home insuranse to be about double what it would be without a business too.

Thanks for the info.

I was not intending to make much money from this--probably wouldn't even cover that amount of insurance.

Too bad. Would have been really nice for the dogs to have another option besides the kennels :-(

I have all insurances and a license it can be done and I dont pay no where near £600 a year. I think my boarding insurance and home insurance are just under £300 a year. Its definately worth it for me but then im really busy year in and out.
