My friend has just found out that her horse has a slight heart murmer and will only be able to do light hacking. He has an excellent temperment and would make a perfect companion. Would be free to a good home, does anyone have any ideas as to where to start looking for somewhere?

I wouldn't give him away free to a good home consider long term loan but TBH if you cant guarantee his future with medical problems it may be best to have him PTS at home

Advertise in your local tack shop/saddlery. Word of mouth, visit livery yards etc.

Just be aware that a lot of forums and individuals have set themselves up as "rescue" centres, offering to take in unwanted horses and ponies.

Don't hand your horse over to anyone who can't provide feedback from others , they tend to have no place where horses are cared for but ffer them to forum members.

No safeguards are in place to take back animals if the rehoming with a loaner not work out. They also sometimes get sold on.

What area are you in ?

i would be wary about giving him away for free, chances are he will get sold on as a perfectly normal horse

He is a lovely horse, and my friend would keep him but would like to do more so therefore needs something else.

She is very aware that someone might want him to sell on, and would put measures in place so that this could not happen.

Most horses have a slight murmer - and I've been told it's nothing to be concerend about.

So perhaps this is a significant murmer, or your friend misunderstood??

That's what i thought. My old boy had a heart murmer, it didn't stop him. Vet said the same to me.

He has also had problems with sarcoids which he has just had extensive treatment for. I think it'll be generally fairer on him to find another home.
