There are lots of threads with people who have made their own hay steamers with a water butt and a wall paper steamer. I have been doing the same since December and am after some advice.

My steamer is cutting out as soon as the water comes to the boil (after about 10 mins, rather than the required 40 mins -1hr that it used to last for, has it packed up???

What brand / type of wall paper steamers are people using? Are they meant to be used everyday?

Any advice would be appreciated, I don't have a handy bloke in my family!!!

I bought one with a 3 year warranty from Aldi, for £29:) I used it every day last winter, usually twice a day. Fairly often I left it too long so it boiled dry and the safety cut out turned it off. It then did nothing for a few months in the summer, until a few weeks ago when I used it to test my mark 2 homemade steamer- it's still working brilliantly:)
I suspect it's the emergency cut off which is faulty on yours, but it's probably not worth repairing - get yourself to Aldi/ Lidl:)

Yep, I'm pretty sure it's the emergency cut off thingy!!! Haha
Any ideas which ones are less likely to break. Don't want to have to keep buying them every 6 months!

have you made sure the little hole on the top of the filler cap is clear so air can get in Lack of air can cause it to over heat and
cut out
My wallpaper steamer came from Homebase

Yes bubbling away. Spoke to the man in b&q today and said it's common for the steamer / stripper I have to break and that they are not designed for regular use, only a hobby decorator! He showed me the ones aimed at trade use.

Just annoying I cannot get a refund as my dozy dad chucked the steamer plate away thinking I'd never use it and I need to return all parts for them to give me a credit! Doh!
