Having a Traditional cob, with lots of feathers and a lovely long thick mane and tail, i really get through the mane and tail conditioner, especially this time of year! and at £7 a time it gets quite expensive!
I read on here somewhere last week about home made stuff, can anyone remember the ingredients. I thought it was 1 part hair conditioner(ours), one part baby oil and one part water? Does this sound right?

I do the conditioner/baby oil one, and I put a slosh of cheap (supermarket's own) conditioner, a squirt of baby oil and fill up with water. I shake well before using, and I find it works fine. I think if you made it too rich, it would be sticky, so one part of each would be too thick.

i use a dog detangle spray from Groomers. The Intense groom and detangle spray. it costs £32 for 5 litres and lasts ages. It smells like funiture polish. I buy it by the bucket load for my dog grooming business so a little bottle here and there for pony is nothing. but its good stuff!

Ditto the furniture polish. It is used at work for all the racers, hunters and the couple of show horses we have. Get it cheap for about 10p a can and it works a treat! We do make sure it doesn't touch the skin though.

I get a bucket of hot water and good squirt of baby oil, dunk in the tail, it cleans all the mud off and repels future mud, looks lovely , soft and shiny and if they are in at night, shavings and straw dont stick to the wet tail either!!
