""The home of a British man is being searched by police looking for missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann.

The man, Robert Murat, has been taken to a police station.

The villa is just 150 yards from the apartment where Madeleine's family were staying, in the southern Portuguese resort of Praia Da Luz.

The house, known as Casa Liliana, was sealed off with tape by police while men in white suits and masks began a search inside. They are believed to have drained the villa's swimming pool.

Police guards were on the doors outside.""

My thoughts go out to the many hundreds of other British residents who've had loved ones or relatives go missing recently, but whose stories have not made national TV or newspaper headlines like this.

There must be hundreds of people living in anguish & missing people in loads of different circumstances e.g. Elderly people suffering from Alzheimer's, teenagers who've had a family bust-up, migrants unable to contact the authorities, people who've just suffered head injuries, fallen into water etc.,

I wonder how I'd feel given that so much air-time has been given to this story.

I expect you would feel exactly the same as the rest of us....and be very hopeful that Madeleine is found alive and can be returned to her parents. Fingers crossed but I fear the worst.

jiffy thats the nicest thing i heard anyone say for a long time

My thoughts go out too for anyone with missing family. The reason the world is so interested in this case is because of her age. A 3 yr old is oblivious to how vile the world can be, and is. At least by the time you are about 11 plus you have a pretty good idea of the dangers in life and how to avoid them. I have a 4 yr old daughter same as Medaleine and I know before I had a child I would have felt different. But now I see there innocence at that age. My daughter trusts everyone and doesnt see or know any dangers, even though I tell her all the time about strangers and not to talk to them, she can't understand why.

Unfortunately for most children who are deliberately harmed it is not strangers who they need to fear, but family members and friends of family

I can't even imagine how terrible it is for her parents, they made a mistake but not one that hundreds of others might have done the same.

I have to work in a room with BBC 24 on all the time and the past two weeks has made me realise how much like the American TV news stations our British ones have become. I was so angry when a Mirror 'journalist' was interviewed over her decision to report Robert Murat to the Potuguese police.

When asked what it was about him that made her do so, all she could say was 'He was just odd.....over friendly and helpful, I just thought there was something strange about him...' !!!!! Er....so you just didn't like him then???!!

The two men who have been questioned are unlikely to be charged (Murat still hasn't been arrested after they searched his place and admitted they still had no evidence), lets face it.
Not only have Maddie and her family's lives been ruined if she doesn't return, these two men's lives have also been ruined whether she comes back or not.

I think the British media are just frustrated because Portuguese authorities seem to be observing the 'innocent until proven guilty' approach to their enquiries - much like we are MEANT to have in Britain.

As everyone else, I hope to god she is found safe and well, the circumstances are irrelevant, a little girl has been taken from her mum and dad......
