Following on from a post from The Watcher where we where joking about potions and lotions that we adapt for horsey use...not saying any of these are right or wrong, but what do you use on your horse which is maybe not the intended use for it??

Ie, athletes foot power for assisting mudfever......

Boots Lavender shampoo and conditioner is awesomely good for a fabulous tail. Smells like a tart's boudoir too! Also, my rescue mare has serious liver damage and last summer developed ghastly patches of weeping dermatitis as well as awful sunburn. The absolute best for her dermatitis was the very best and very expensive baby nappy cream, though I used such humungus amounts of it that my local Boots must think I have quins!

A TB stud owner I knew recommended Ground Nut oil to prevent mud fever. You find it in the supermarket with sunflower oil etc and just put it on as a protective layer. Trouble is in the cold weather it solidifies so you have to keep it in the house. He also used a babies disposable nappy for a dressing but I can't remember if it was for a foot abcess or a wound.

Masking tape for holding plasters / Melolin on.

Tank tape for holding Animalintex on hooves or cut heels. Disposable nappies for foot abcesses. with the tank tape.

Tea bags for weeping eyes.

Can't think of any more at the mo...

Benilyn (non drowsey) if your horse has a sesonal cough.
Optrex golden eyes for weepy eyes.
Baby oil applied to points of shoulder helps to stop rugs rubbing.
Bees wax furniture polish for tangle free tails.
