Saw a very old thread on here about making plastic jump poles and they suggested using a plastic down pipe, filling with builders sand and then using end caps on each end of the pipe. I can't find a 68mm end cap to fit the down pipes available and so either:
  • Need to find a different pipe size
  • Need to find another way to fill holes at end of pipe
Thinking I may use expanding foam to fill but not sure if that would work well?

Any other ideas welcomed! Thanks :)

I use drainpipes and use adhesive vinyl rectangles to cover them, I've not had one shatter yet but the logic is that the vinyl would hold everything together if it did.

This is the sort of thing I use https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/323018877517

In saying that I have small ponies which makes the risk a little less

I've seen this stuff on eBay which you could use in a similar way, it looks like it may do for the ends too - it looks essentially like pallet wrap which clings and moulds nicely

When filled with sand they will be very heavy. Expanding foam will work, other ideas, fill 150mm (6") either end with concrete, or tap a piece of timber into each end.plastic poles with no weight in them will blow out of the cups when it's breezy.

Ive used downpipes before, and frankly one proper hit or stomp on and they shatter. It is dangerous and not really cost effective. Also, you will need to pain them anyway if you want a design on them..otherwise they are just a solid colour like a wooden one is.

Basic wooden ones are so cheap - they may only last a couple of seasons but probably still more cost effective to just paint them (or use plastic pole sleeves) than to faff about filling and capping a plastic pipe which will probably end up too heavy or too light.

Agree, they can shatter.

Alternative might be the cores carpet rolls come on, not very strong but quite safe. And FREE. Will need protecting from rain, painting a fag, covering with tape (duct or packing) prob the easiest.
