Homeopathic alternative to Ventapulmin?

Does anyone know as title? Have a late teens Welsh who a month ago was"wheezy"with a
soft cough,had Vet who gave antibiotics,steroids and ventapulmin,all feeds damped,hay fed wet,changed stable to very well ventilated one,but pony still has heaves"gut breathing"
and occasional cough,turned out most days if possible ,is bright eating well,but would prefer homeopathic remedy(s) any one any advice please?
 
its not homeopathic but its called airways extra strength powder made by equine America its a powder supplement can get liquid form to but that you give then just before riding but the powder is great clears even the quite severe coughs
 
In the past I have used a grazing muzzle with some straw and cotton wool then soaked them in a decongestant such as eucalyptus in boiling water this is like an inhaler.

You can also use Eucalyptus, Lavender and Tea tree together, these give you a decongestant an anti septic and a relaxant.

Please explain to me how you are going to get the horse to believe that the remedy will help him? ;) It is well known/proven that homeopathy works via the placebo effect.
 
As Meowy Catmas says, well, in a roundabout way, there sadly is no such thing as magic fairy dust that will cure COPD/RAO. If there were, vets would be prescribing it left right and centre and COPD/RAO wouldn't be the potentially fatal disease that it is. I'm interested if this is the first ever time you've observed this or could it have been there at a lower level in previous winters? If it's a gradually worsening problem then your vets will have various drug and management suggestions that can help. If it's the first time observed then I'd be asking myself Why now? Assuming it's an allergy to something (and it may NOT be, may be some underlying disease process) and it's started in winter then I'd suspect dust and spores in hay. 24/7 turnout away from hay stores and/or muckheap along with haylage rather than hay should resolve it. However, a severe allergy can cause permanent damage to the lungs that no amount of drugs can cure: they can only prevent it worsening. My veteran is severely allergic to summer pollen and, a crude assessment from counting breaths per minute at rest and comparing with what should be the norm, means he's probably lost at least half, maybe 2/3rds of his lung capacity. No drugs were helping him and his quality of life was getting dodgy. Then my equine vets had a talk from the mfrs of Cavalesse. It's marketed as a sweetitch product but the rep told my vets it would work just as well for pollen allergy. They gave vets a 3-month trial pack and they passed it on to my horse. Not the miracle I was hoping for but certainly gave an approx 60% improvement which has improved his quality of life accordingly. Not sure if it would work for dust allergy but certainly worth ringing the maufacturers, Fidavet. It's a nutraceutical rather than a supplement. Good luck.
 
Global Herbs Airways Plus is amazing. I first used it on a 24 y.o. mare whose breathing was so bad she could hardly do more than walk with a rider on board. After 2-3 weeks she was happily going out for hacks and cantering (and being very hard to stop a couple of times!).

I recommended it to a friend with a 14.2 Sec D who had a horrible runny nose and eyes, wheezy breathing and struggled to do more than the occasional trot, despite being out 24/7. A few months later she was out hunting.

Please give it a try.

Well OP I have had two large horses one used to cough sort or flem out or his nose and mouth. The other used to cough quite a lot. Vet gave them ventapulmin quite expensive isn't it!! Well they do another one which is half the price. Said horses would be on it for probably most their life as one seemed to have COPD. Well I tried wetting the hay, farmer wouldn't let me use shavings so I moved. Put on Rubber matting and shavings (as my horse used to eat the staw as well) changed to haylage. Both stopped coughing and I never had a problem again.

It's what I would do first give it a month and hopefully see the difference.
 
Thankyou to all who replied,this is not a problem i have had in a pony before,which is why i posted,just a little suprised that no one so far has used homeopathy!but thanks again will try some of your suggestions,keeping my figers crossed for an improvement.
 
Have you tried Winnergy's Ventilate/Respirate (I think it's called)?

It didnt work for my pony, but have heard other people say good things about it.
 
its not homeopathy but have you tried giving your horse piriton tablets? These alongside a steroid and ventolin inhaler have worked wonders on my pony who suffers from allergies.
 
If its homeopathy you want you might as well just give him some water or a bit of lactose and try and talk him into believing in its effects :D

I take it that you are not a fan of homeopathy?? lol have seen fantastic results over many years with horses and dogs but this is a problem i have not encountered before.
