Hi there, my cob has an ongoing dermatitis of his pasterns - doesn't get worse but never seems to completely clear up - and I've recently read about the homoepathic remedy Graphites which could be helpful. Would be glad to hear from anyone who's tried it on their horse - eg. tablets or cream? If tabs do you add to feed? What potency & how many tabs (he's about 400kg), over how long a period? etc etc. Many thanks for any advice.

Give him as many tablets as you like as often or as infrequently as you see fit. Maybe give one tablet on the first of the month, increasing by one a day until you are giving 31 on the last day and reset each month. This should fit with the logical absurdity of homeopathy.

Try and find a homoeopathic vet near you and get the remedy in liquid form made for animals, it is higher potency that you can buy in the chemist and far easier to dispense. We paid about £6 for each remedy when we got them for the hens.

Thanks hch4971, will look into that.
Do I detect a touch of sarcasm alsiola? I guess you are more a follower of conventional medicine, and so am I, but seeing as that hasn't managed to clear the problem up I'm willing to explore other avenues and even if homeopathy doesn't do any good I don't think there's any harm in trying - like most horse owners, I only want to help mine and am willing to be open to ideas to do so ;)

Speak to Ainsworths - Google phone no as I dont have it to hand. They are more than willing to help and advise.

TBH I think that is how most people find "Alternative Methods" When you reach that point where you have tried everything else...

I have never had to personally use graphites but have had friends in the past who have had SERIOUS Excema / psoriasis - the sort that sits proud of the skin in "lumps". They have used Graphites with great success. It is very good for Dermatological conditions.

But personally (as mentioned) I would speak to Ainsworths as they may also be able to give you some other advice as well.

Ignore Alsiola - they been on the lemons again I think....

The tiniest touch of it maybe. I just find it truly offensive to see charlatans ripping people off with this hokum. Homeopathy may not do any harm in and of itself, but it truly does do harm by stopping access to clinically proven medicines. In fact, someone is keeping count, and there are so far 437 recorded deaths directly attribute to this cause (source: http://whatstheharm.net/homeopathy.html ). The tablets may be harmless, but the people giving them out are not.

Anything useful in alternative medicine becomes medicine!

Water does not have memory, if it did would it not remember all the poop its been through?

LOL! Well said - Losing the will to live with some people... ;):D:rolleyes: How else did modern medicines start??? Aspirin and Willow Bark spring to mind... Its HOW you use it. (ie would NEVER use either on cats as is v toxic...) Would NEVER advocate using "natural medicines / alternative therapies" without half an inkling of HOW / WHEN to use them...

Hey who'dve thought that Digitalis (Foxglove) could be used in the fight against Alzheimers???? OMG!!!:D (sorry, not the time for sarcasm....)

Everything in moderation as they say... "Modern" / Synthetic medicines are just as LETHAL in the wrong hands.

Garlic can cause Heinz Anaemia in horses... yet people continue to use this "wonder herb" by the handful (yes I kid you not, I have seen it done!!!!) It has been tested to the point the horses nearly died!

I resorted to using homeopathy and herbs because I am highly sensitive to synthetics (guess my body is a throwback to pre-synthetics then...) I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and CANNOT take any NSAIDS above Paracetamol 500mg so when I "abuse" my bad foods I resort to homeopathy (nux vom) - for getting rid of the toxins and anti-inflammatory foods.

At least 4 of my (current) animals are living PROOF that Homeopathy and Alternative therapy / treatments work.

Sometimes you have to go back to basics, BUT with the proviso that you RESPECT and seek ADVICE on what you do not fully understand. DO YOUR RESEARCH and do not be scared to SEEK knowledge...
