I would like to buy a homeopathic pack if there is such a thing for my mare, she is VERY highly strung, she always has been but since moveing to this new yard 3 months ago isnt herself at all, she is on Magnitude but it doesnt seem to make any difference, i would like to offer her some homeopathic remedies and see what she chooses, is there anyone who supplies such things? Thanks in adavance

Hi
I get mine from Ainsworth or Helios, if you do a search online you should find them. Rescue remedy works quite well to calm them down. If you let me know whta your horse is doing I have a book here that will prob tell you what is need, if thats any help.

She is so highly strung and gets worked up so easily, she has been badly treated in the past so i've worked alot on that and she is generally fine to handle but when she gets worked up it all goes out the window and she just cant settle. When i got her she was very head shy she isnt anymore but i dont know whether it is still a past trauma. She has regualar physio, teeth etc and no problems ever found. She has also started shaking her head when she gets worked up in the stable, which is generally where she is worse. She has seperation issues as well. She is able to work in an outline on the lunge but isnt trusting when you are riding she works in an outline for a stride then out of an outline for two, again i just want to say ALL possible checks have been done with six monthly physio sessions with nothing ever found, so i though i may as well give homeopathy a go, if not i really dont know what to do, i think she will just have to be retired but she is only 12! Thanks

Hi I have found that Horse First, Relax Me works better than magnitude.
Also, Ignatia 200c works well for separtion issues & anxiety. Dose her once a day for 5 days. It is a very good remedy for mares. Also, use rescue remedy when you work her as it does work.
Maybe worth giving one remedy at a time as then you know if it works or not. Also you may find that when you sort out some issues that other ones appear. Also, dont give her mints when using homeopathy as it stops it working.
Hope this helps

before you spend lots of money on homeopathy - have alook at some of the research produced by the sceptics movement - they are the people who arranged the national mass overdose of homeopathic medications a few months ago - i am very sceptical about homeopathy - particulalry for animals are there is no possibility of a placebo effect:)

Hi Rubysmum, i am also a bit of a sceptic where homeopathy is concerned, but tbh i have tried everything else, forked out loads of money on lessons, physio, always had her teeth done and they are always fine, saddles, bridles with different padding, bits, just absolutely everything to be honest and although she is much better we always seem to be at the point where she is almost there but we never get there, so i thought i should try something i havent and see what happens, i'll let you know how i get on!

Hi sorry not replied been a bit busy!!!
Websites:
www.helios.co.uk
www.ainsworths.com
If you put in a search on their site then you will find it. 200c is available on these sites & not over the counter, sometimes you can get them in tack shops but not often.
Yes you can feed her a normal. Out of interest what is she fed?
I too used to be a sceptic but having used them & seen the results on animals & children I find them very useful.
You can use the rescue remedy & ignatia together. 2 tablets each time is enough.
Let me know how it goes

Hi

Thanks for that i'll go on there websites, she is fed baileys lo cal, which perhaps is the problem? She used to just have chaff and bran, which she didnt look poor on but i thought it would be better to give her something more balanced.

Hi,
I use rescue remedy to calm my highly strung mare down before shows etc, it really works. I also use lavendar oil on her headcollar when she is travelled as this seems to clam her too.
I used to be septical until this mare had a sarcoid which cured with Thuja cream and tablets, she then got an awful cold last winter when coming back from being broken, there was yellow snot everywhere, I got the vet who put her on 10 days of strong anti-biotics, to no avail, so I tried herbs soaked after about 2 weeks no more snot and a happy healthy horse.
I now use homeopathy all the time on all my neds, also use the bioflow magnetic therapy, as someone said animals dont work on a placebo effect so obviously the alternative therapys work!
Good luck with your mare

So could i use rescue remedy before i ride? She is funny as she is completely calm in the field same as she always has been, but when she comes in she is calm for a while when i am brushing her and then all of a sudden she she goes gets really worked up she has started shaking her head up and down like a maniac and then i end up just have to feed her as she is so worked up, she wolfs all her food down as quick as possible and i then have to just get her out as she starts shaking her head, i have lunged her a few times but she gets so worked up afterwards and the only way to calm her down is to feed her i'm worried she is going to colic. The head shaking seems like its just something for her to do if you know what i mean its really odd! She is also constantly worried about her field mates if they go for a ride or away from her she wont stop calling even if one is still with her and other horses are in the field near her.

I found that Bach's Rescue Remedy worked really quite well for my mare, particularly at shows. As to whether homeopathy works or not, well I have a BSc in science and I use it on myself and my horse with remarkable results. No one has every said it can "cure" everything but conventional medicine doesn't work for everyone either. It is low cost and cannot harm even if it doesn't work. I work in a University and know of two Professors in my department who use homeopathy on themselves. One has a chemistry background, the other biology and both are known internationally in their respective fields.

Hi you can use rescue remedy as much as you like & when you like. You just do a couple of sprays & it works fairly quickly. If she then stats getting a bit "stressy" again give her some more.
It maybe that low cal isnt helping, maybe its worth using something like Saracens Relieve as it doesnt have any cereal in it & it could be a sugar intolerance that it causing it. My daughter had a warmblood that was extremely stressy until we put him on that & there was a marked improvement.
Any let me know how it goes

I use the tincture that I get for myself from boots, I just pop a few drops in the side of her mouth before I load her, then I use it again when we arrive at our desination!
It works for my mare, fingers crossed it works on yours.
