Homeopathy

I tried homeopathy for arthritis problems, it came from a pukka HP vet, but it did not seem to make any difference.

My friend swears by them for her dogs, but to be honest when the dog got really ill, the vet switched to regular medication and only then did the dog get better.

I have used several homeopathic remedies, the main one being arnica, I think it works, but you must rmember that a horse doesn't know what you re doing so you lose the placebo effect yo get in humans.

Has anyone ever tried homeopathy on their horse, if so did it work?

I've used it a fair bit though can only say that it worked very well, once.

Years ago one of mine got hives/urticaria... so an allergy to something in her environment that brought her out in huge fluid filled lumps all over her torso.

She was started off on Steroid injections, then to tablets. I was giving her 48 pills a day!

The vet thought it would take 2 weeks for the hives to clear up, but every time we reduced the dosage of the steroids she broke out again.

I had moved her and her companion to a local farm, as we had Leylandii trees in our field and that's what the vet thought the most likely cause of the Hives was.

The farmers wife at this new field was very into Homeopathy and told me to pop along to the local Homeopathy shop for 2 types of pillules.

I so wish I had written down what they were called, because I can't remember now!

With agreement from the vet (last ditch effort as she was perplexed that the hives wouldn't go) we introduced the H pillules, and slowly weaned my ned off the steroid pills.

That worked a treat! Carried on with the H pills for a further 2 weeks and then weaned her off those as well.

It took 6 weeks for the Hives to go completely..... and I'd say it was all down to the Homeopathy!

Yes - I have my first experience of homeopathy this summer with my horse and am very interested to learn more about it. I used Thuja on him for sarcoids (long ardious story as suffered for years with these) and had great results. They have all fallen off bar three of them which the vet has now banded. Interestingly the sarcoids that have fallen off on their own accord (with Thuja) have healed well, the banded ones which the vet did are still red raw skin 4 weeks later.......

Many thanks everyone for your replies. I am going to try it for SPA RAO. My pony has been on vet meds since May and is a little better but not as well as he should be by now as the grass pollen has long passed. I have contacted a practitioner and she has prescribed tablets which I am starting tomorrow (fingers crossed).

Yes, we've used it several times for horses and cows, we always use Ainsworths and call their pharmacy for advice, often we use it in conjunction with the vets advice and whether its the conventional medicine or the homeopathy, we think its worth every penny (with the right advice, dosage and type of application!) - put it this way 150 cows can't tell that we've used it can they?

I tried it once when my gelding cracked his pedal bone. He was 7yo and after 4 months box rest he came out fine and the crack was no longer visible on xrays and he was completely sound. Difficult to say whether the homeopathy had anything to do with the outcome though.
