Homes needed for..

Ah hun I have been asking around for you. Tyson would love a Henry dog to play with but I just couldn't cope with another dog, let alone another Husky related hound!
Have you tried asking Gemma btw? Being a dog walker she knows a fair few 'doggy folk' Might be worth a try? X

Even though your lad is a cross I'm sure the breed rescues would still consider helping

SHWA may take a crossbreed but SHCGB Welfare will not (and in fact won't take any sibe that isn't KC registered ).

SHWA has a Facebook group if you want to test the waters there? I have put them both up on the husky forum but most people on there have multiple dogs so I don't foresee much interest in the sammie. :(

Our friend is an ex police dog handler and helps with rehoming them as guard dogs.
It will still be loved and have a long chain so really he'll feel like he just lives in the garden and will have an open kennel and will be buddied up with our other guard dog, it sounds much worse than it is lol. I'm not keen on GSD's though :( but with the influx of 'those' people sneaking about our property eyeing up quads/machinery/scrap we need more than just the one.

It must vary by force though, there is no way any of our boys would rehome a dog to live on a chain (it can heighten aggression, not in a good way, and I have personal experience of it) and in the organisation I am in, you must turn in all the documentation/previous performance record of the dog if it is to go on to be a guard/security/yard dog, that tells it's own story!!!

Nope it definitely isn't all forces, I have had a few dogs go to the police, plus known several handlers and if the handler doesn't keep the dog in retirement then they are placed in very carefully vetted homes, same goes for dogs that haven't made it in training.

Have sent some of the suggested websites to my step mum but after the dogs got out once again today and with Rosie almost getting hit by a van! She said that she is just going to just call the RSPCA! :( What else can i do?!!

Bum - I think you might need to take the initiative on this one.
Join the Biggsd Forum ASAP - as Henry is half GSD they will be sympathetic and could help with contacts for Rosie - they're a very friendly bunch and should at least be able to sort a foster home in the interim. They could be months in kennels with the RSPCA, and anyhow, they're kinda jammed :(

As far as I'm aware the RSCPA won't take in dogs in that fashion any more - ridiculous, I know, but I remember there being a hoo-hah in the news about it.

Here's the FB group for SHWA: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=80844794215 - do stick a message on the wall there.

If there were any way you could get Henry up here for a trial with Dax I'd do it but you're over four hours each way and my house/garden is so small that if they didn't get on I'd have no way of separating them, I'm resigned to not having a second dog until we've moved. :(

OP, I really wish I could help these dogs. A new baby is no excuse for palming off your dogs. I certainly couldn't do it. They do deserve better care and attention, certainly, but having a newborn, whilst hard work, should not hinder that care and attention unless the owner is a lazy bint.

PinkPony, I wouldn't allow a child or adult to shove any dog of mine around. Don't take advantage of a good natured dog and turn it into a monster by allowing your 18month to do this.

Try that site I PM'ed ya and if you had more time I would have put their pics on our site, but seems like ya mam/relative wants them out yesterday:(

Poor oldies :( hope someone can help.

PinkPony - please don't think an ex police dog (or most GSDs!) will be happy on the end of a chain - they live in the home with their handlers either in kennels or in the house.
Very few forces would rehome a dog to be kept on the end of a chain.

I didn't think they rehomed them anyway, I thought they were classed as a lethal weapon once they were trained ?? obviously you'd know more than me, thats just what I thought, unless they were being rehomed a handler

Some forces do rehome to knowledgeable owners.
You'd be at more risk from an untrained, unpredictable dog than a dog who has been trained under very controlled circumstances which would only react to certain commands or triggers.

If I had the money to drive the 4 hours i honestly would and i would sit there for as long as i needed to see if they got on lol.

Im currently hunting down foster homes just to give me a little more time and hopefully await replies from the adverts. :(

Oh, god, you couldn't be any further away. I know of someone who would take the dog in a flash, if I didn't have him myself, but he'd have to be trialled with their pack or my dog first and you're nearly four hours each way. :(

Believe me i would drive the 4 hours if it meant him not going to a dog rescue!!!

I thought you said you would be prepared to drive the 4 hours??

I would be prepared to drive the 4 hours but dont currently have the spare money for that and i highly doubt my step mum would offer!!

I think 1-2 months is too long, unless i could find suitable foster homes.

I would be more than happy to put them on our website and do any home checks if there where any enquiries, obviously the homes may be far from you, but if you can travel with them it may help, but I find if people are really interested they will do the travelling.

That would be great thankyou so much! :D

Henry is meeting his potential new mum tomorrow - a lovely lady from the husky forum, with three huskies to play with :D - depending on the reaction of her male husky, he'll either stay with them for the long term or she'll foster him and take him to the annual meet so anyone who's interested can meet him.

If it works out it will be a fantastic home for him, she practically has a whole pack of them now and lives around the corner from an off-lead dog park. :D

Ok, will you keep us informed? I'm so, so tempted, just need to be sure I've got a stable and consistent enough home to offer to a dog.

Hi guys!

Thankyou for enquiring about how its going!

So i took Henry to see a nice girl and her Husky pack that Black Cobs found for me yesterday and although he was overwhelmed as he is quite under socialised he didnt show any potential problems! He pretty much tried to hide behind my legs the whole time and make himself invisible even though he was twice the size of most of them! lol

But i think with time he will settle in really well and go on to play with the others. I even let him off the lead which is usually a big no no and he was an angel! It really made me wish that i was in the right situation to take him myself :(

So im taking him back next sunday, where they are holding a husky party in the dog park and thats where i will leave him with his new family.

Im so happy he has found this new life and so close to me but it will be so hard saying goodbye. She has promised to keep me regulary updated which is perfect.

Now an update on Rosie.. after ringing the Samoyed rescue again and having them saying that the best option for her would be to be PTS it got my step mum thinking. She seems to think that with Henry 'the troublemaker' gone that she will able to provide Rosie with the attention she needs. She will be able to wonder around the garden as she pleases without fear of her getting out and she is far easier to be walked alone. I hope this works out and will i be keeping a close eye to see that it doesnt go back downhill and she gets the love she deserves!

So all in all a good result.. THANKYOU BLACK COBS!!! :D

I think Sinead the fruitloop who will now have three full sibes and a Henry Snell deserves all the thanks and gratitude, she must be mental. :D

Between what you and her have said I'm sure now that he wouldn't have fit in with us, Dax is really high energy and would have mobbed the poor lad to death. :o

Hahaha probably! I didnt expect him to be so shy, as his usually so boisterous! Im sure it wont take him long to come out of his shell and be a proper dog again!

It was amusing however when a little poodle cross came running up to him and he tried to climb up into my arms to get away! lol

I know Sinead, hopefully her OH will allow her to keep him then I shall get to meet Henry in the winter :)
I saw her looking for a home for him on another dog forum shall keep my fingers crossed

UPDATE: So dropped Mr Snell (Henry) off today :( Was absolutely heartbreaking.... But on a good note me and my dad are moving back to our house around august and have decided that he can come and live with us and our 2 doggies :D. So he is on a holiday rather than in a foster :) This i think will be great for him! He will be trimmed up, socialised and taught some manners before coming back and spending the rest of his years with us.

I definatly think this is a blessing in disguise as horrible as it was to go through! I will keep everyone updated with his 'Boot Camp' pictures!! :p
