Honest advise please novice nervous rider buying a horse

:confused: I've looked at the threads started by both savannacat and headcollaruk and they are more or less on the same theme. Wanting dressage horse and looking for liveries. Don't suppose she wants a nearly new slightly broken down TB with several bad scars on leg and sone bald patches on it's withers? It needs a good home.
 
There are separate threads? I've only seen this one where Savannahcat starts the thread and then part way through headcollaruk starts replying as if they were the OP.

Very confused.

Lol. I meant recent threads posted under both names. Savannacat has just joined forum. Other ID has been about for a while. Maybe she forgot which ID she used to start this tread?
 
Whoever the OP is, I just wanted to say that there ARE well bred, talented, trainable warmbloods, continental or otherwise, who also are very nice people (well, persons ;))
OP isn't a novice rider who struggles for balance and can be spooked by expressive paces, she is an experienced rider who has confidence issue - those are two completely different things.

Agree completely.
I'm coming back into it after a long break, and didn't want a really highly tuned young 'prospect'. My nerves aren't what they used to be, although I would class myself as a decent rider (well - used to be!) Similarly to Always Henesy, I've gone for an older, but still talented horse, who could, if sound enough, still go out and compete at a decent level. Mines not mega sound, I knew that when I took him on, but chose to take that risk, because I'd still love him if he were only able to be a happy hacker, or a field ornament, but there are plenty around that are.
OP- I advertised on Horsequest, and got loads of responses. It's surprising how many decent older horses are looking for a slightly quieter life.

The title of the thread says 'novice nervous rider' or maybe I misread it. Maybe she meant 'novice rider, nervous about buying a horse as opposed to horse wanted for a nervous novice.:confused:

If you read more than the title, as in the actual post, it would become pretty evident what sort of situation it is.

Hi nothing sinister i am savannah cat,headcollaruk, i decided to get a new user name as i received some odd pms.
 
A different angle. Your yard will not be the only one with good trainers and support. I have seen people stuck ( including myself in the past) when they end up thinking that they can't possibly have a better yard or trainer and end up putting up with a lot ( in my case, massive extras which hugely hiked up my bill... like doubling it!)

warmbloods does not equal automatically flashy and professional ride, same as TB does not always nutty and unrideable! Huge variances in type. Think about what you want to do, not what someone else wants. Maybe consider a good schoolmaster who will bring you on and go to a yard where they can either help with the training or have good outside instruction.

I read it as you did TM.
The fact that someone has had several young horses that they couldn't ride does NOT make them less of a novice.
