Honest answers please! How many times....

A) once
B) once
C) never been able to afford it!

To be fair though I'm on Assisted so YO feeds, rugs and b-i/t-o at either end of the day.

do you visit your horse in a day when they're:

a) on diy livery

b) living out

c) on full livery

I know this is going to be a contentious thread and will make a cup of tea while waiting for the 1st replies to hit but I am genuinely interested as I am moving my boy from diy (owners on site) to living out (owners on site).

I would create a poll if I knew how.....next time maybe :)

Depends the time of year really :)

Summer (now)

a) once

b) once

Never had a horse on full livery always had my own space or small yard on DIY :)

Winter

a) twice

b) twice

c) same as above :)

With DIY, depends how pony is kept.

If stabled - visit once but pay for assisted DIY to ensure morning routine covered (feed/water/turnout etc)
If out - visit once a day but was at a working RS so someone went out to horses regularly

Grass keep - would check once a day.

Full livery - I currently have my pony on full liverly precisely so I don't HAVE to visit him every day as am a single parent with a job and a demanding toddler and I didn't want the additional responsibility. I also have a sharer which works out wonderfully for me as I can ride whenever I get the chance but am confident he is well looked after if I am not there.

A) twice

B) varies I rent my own yard but the ponies live out, I go at least once a day but usually more, I also vary the times I go and the length of time I stay for, although it is for at least 30 minutes. A friend of mine had her horse stolen within 30 minutes of her visiting the police believed the thieves watched and worked out her routine and knew how long they had before the theft was noticed  So I don't have a set routine, the ponies live on air even in the winter so aren't bothered.

C) Never had one of full livery but would imagine I would still go at least once a day.

At the moment he's living out and checked by YO in the morning and I bring him in for his tea and a groom in the evening. When he was poorly the most I was going down was about 6-7 and he was checked in the night by a lady on foal watch :)

On DIY I visit two or three times a day as I do in summer when they are living out.
When I had mine on full livery I went three or four times a week as they were 45 minutes away.

What a fab resonse thanks guys!

Bikerchickone - I am moving to 24/7 turnout (with stable) & am trying to get my head around the changes. Horses are well supervised by YO of that there is no doubt & other owners will be doing checks too but not sure I can relax yet with only 1 visit a day......

I am currently on diy but guess its considered assisted as yo helps & (unless im restricting grazing / assessing a problem when I regularly visit 3 x a day) my OH / Sharer do the opp. End of day to me but I do have the bonus of seeing him twice a day from thr car as he is equidistant from house & work.

A)twice......or three times if farrier or poorly

B) never lived out

C) once as we had only just got them and were considered novices but once we found our feet they were moved to DIY

DIY - never done

Grass - 3 times

FL - never done

I also have friends who have the fields opposite mine and we keep an eye on each others and loads of local dog walkers who all know my number is on the gate in case of emergency :D

When she is out 24/7, I visit once a day, unless I want her in during the day, or I need to rug up/ put sun cream on. This is on a DIY livery yard though, where there will be several other people in and out of the field during the day.
When she is in at night, I visit twice a day. At the moment, she is on paddock rest, so I'm up three times a day.

a) Due to the nature of my job I've not had a horse on DIY for years unfortunately
b) My girl doesn't live out although might stay out at night sometimes in summer
c) On fully livery and I go as often as possible. Been away on business this week from Monday until tonight so not seen her all week :(

I share a field with another livery so she will do both horses at one end of the day and I do them the other end. So the horses are visited twice daily. This is the same weather they are living out through the summer or in overnight through the winter.
Never had her on full livery.

a) Once a day - horse is put out in morning as part of diy livery service so only go up in afternoon/evening.

b) Once a day most of the time while he is out 24/7 in summer. On rare days I will have a day off but never leave him for more than one day.

c) I dont use full livery barely at all. A couple times recently while horse is on box rest but I still went up after work to muck out again and feed.
