Please could I have some honest feedback on bossy's bibs.

Please could you say what kind of horse you used it on (breed/height etc), what type of rub you were trying to prevent and what size you bought.

How did the front tab fare because I've bought several where the tab has come off even after a few days.

Thank you very much, Emily. xx

We have a large pony bossy bib for a 14.2 welsh cross and a cob size for a 15.1 cob. Bothe been used for 2 winters and the only problem was the Velcro came looke on one of the straps, but was able to sew back. I like them, considering the amount of use the seemed worth the expense.

Bought two in the past for my narrow chested tb as his rugs were rubbing his shoulder (very cold winter at farm so was layering) First was great, did the job. Front tab was fine. Bought a second at your horse live a few years late as it was looking a bit tatty. Exactly the same size but it was too big and kept spinning round at the back/ sliding to one side. Eventually changed to a fleecy shires one that has a surcingle under the belly to hold it in place .

Our TBs wear them- Smokes is a skinny mini 15.2hh, and Reg is a proper old-fashioned 17hh P2P type. They get rug rubs on their chest and shoulders, and the bossy bibs stop them really well.

My (then) yearling (approx 14hh sport horse type) had a pony sized one, but it didn't see much use because I don't rug her very often. The welsh cob (15hh) has a large full size bib because he has large chest and shoulders and can get rubbed there (although I gave away the rug responsible for that). He wore it all last winter and it's still in one piece and going strong...

For both I phoned and asked what size they'd recommend as even though technically the cob should have been a small full, he's proper full size everything else and in 6'6" rugs. They were extremely helpful and the sizes they recommended for both after I'd spoken to them were spot on.

I've had two for my bony shouldered warmblood. They lasted a winter (approx 6months of constant use) before the front tab came off.

But Roma do exactly the same version for £7 instead of Bossy's £20 and it did exactly the same job and lasted the same amount of time. If I was buying I'd save myself the money and buy Roma again.

My big shouldered ( proper tank ) ISH wore supersize bibs and they were the only ones which ever fitted him, he could never wear any rug without them even for short periods even fly rugs as literally everything rubbed, with them he was fine. They were a total godsend to me I always had 3 on the go for him one on, one off one in the wash ! The tab did break/wear but they worked fine without it. The Roma ones didn't do it for me.

I have a bossy bib for my 15.3hh cobxtb she wears a sweetitch rug all summer with the bib underneath. It fits well and has lasted being worn everyday. I really like them. The rubbed hairs even grew back once I got the bib.

My little fine welsh sec a has a small pony one, bought to prevent rubs on her shoulders and its done the job to a t :) the front tabs still going strong two years on!

I love my pony's bossy bib. The bib came with the pony, didnt always use it, but when i bought her a new rug and it rubbed her shoulders i dug the big out and it was fab! the tab is still on there, the bib did end up ripped but i think my pony caught it, so i just stiched it up and carried on, still as fab as ever. Unfortunately the bib has now out lived my beloved pony, although pony was 30 :), bib has got to be nearing 20 years old!!

We use them and love them. There was an earlier batch where the front tab came off quicker - they put another one on when we asked. But the newer ones are more robust. They prevent 100% of rubs on both my 13.2 cob and a 15hh ISH (not the same size!) The ladies are great about getting the correct sizes and you can have them made to measure. But I just phone up and ask for a second that has come up an odd size. The cob takes a slight variant of the mid pony size. The only criticism I have of them is the full neck mane saver one didn't save all the ISH's mane (although more of it than would have been the case had we not had it!) and the velcro got tatty quite fast. But it still worked. Having experimented with bibs for about 5 years before finding bossy's I wouldn't swap again now. A bit of patience if the sizing isn't 100% and a lot of liaison with the company - they can work anything out!

I have used them for years on my 16.1 Shire/WB mare and love them - she has a really broad chest and got rug rubs from everything when we first got her 10 years ago. We started with bossy bibs early on, tried other makes when they eventually wore out after several years constant use but nothing else has come close to being as good. Went back to the Bossy bibs and wouldn't buy anything else!

I have used them for years, and all my origins lobes are still going strong. I had a problem with one horse, spoke to the owner of the company and she adapted the bib accordingly, and it was perfect.

16.3hh, relatively narrow warmblood with very thin/sensitive skin (plus he's grey) and the BBs were the ONLY thing that stoped rubbing on his shoulders. No issues with quality or tabs coming off.

Interesting. Don't suppose I could have a pic (or similar) of the fleecy one please :) thank you

Thanks for your comment. Please could I have the model / link to the roma one as if some people are saying the front tab comes off I'm not that keen as I've already had one and tried to sew and super glue the tab back on and it never works. Ended up having to cut holes in the bib to fix it to the rug straps then it just didn't sit right as it was half outside of the rug :( xx

Just wanted to say thanks so much to everyone for their helpful comments. :) They are only £23 and £23 isn't a lot compared to needing the vet out if he gets a sore on his withers again that could get infected. (Didn't last time but could lol).

I had sores once on my horses so changed to a make rug that fitted properly and never had sores again. I see so many rugs that don't fit properly its no wonder some get sores.

I have a ISH and bought a medium full which fitted nicely. Her turnout rug was rubbing her shoulders, the bossy bib stopped this happening and I was very happy with it. The loop on the front is frayed and tatty now (used it for a couple of years though) but still there - if it falls off, I will stitch it back on.

Last year at YHL I bought Snuggy Hoods equivalent of a bossy bib - it was cheaper :) This one has been just as good but the sizing wasn't as generous and just fitted a little too snugly for my liking - still did the job though.

I think the next one I purchase will be another Bossy Bib.

Fig is a narrow show pony type ex racer, about 15.2hh. He wears a large pony (it sits high enough to stop the cuff of the rug rubbing). I never both with the tab, he's had his a couple of years and it's still there though.

My 13.3 PBA wears a pony size (my 13.3 PBWs also used to wear it) to prevent shoulder rubs (never been rubbed but previous ponies were and didn't want it again!) front tab going strong at 8YO.

We use Lycra ones that have a mini girth and false martingales for the team ponies- they work too.

I love Bossy Bibs and have used them for the last 10 years with brilliant results, only reason I've ever bought new is because I got a bigger horse! They are really helpful if you call them about sizing too, i've had them on a 16.1 TB and a 15hh ish with great result.

I tried one on my welsh d, she is 14.1 ish and we tried the large pony. When she came to me she had very bad rug rub across her shoulders. We tried the bib as I thought it might help her hair grow back faster and it was not great, it didn't line up with the rug front fasteners and wouldn't stay put. After trying for a bit I just took it off and went without it, her coat grew back perfectly without it. I debated giving it another go (maybe in a larger size) as we struggle with lightweight rugs, her heavier rug is a perfect fit but I can't find a lightweight that doesn't have velcro on the front and stays fastened. Not decided what to do yet.
