I've been looking for a foal for around a year now and finally found one I really like. He's 1.5yrs old Furstenball x Wolkentanz Hannoverian colt from the elite foal auctions in Germany (now in the UK).

Honest opinions on him, good or bad.

Please excuse his gangliness - he's in the disproportioned age!

I like him but would have preferred to see walk and canter not just trot, trot can be impressive but if the other paces are not good they are more difficult to improve by schooling.

any still shots? hard to see his pasterns but the fetlocks look very mobile... not that i know anything about it lol ,Im learning all the time so will follow with interest.

I like him as well but agree with BP you need a walk and canter as well much easier to develop the trot than walk and canter.
Nice colour too.

He canters towards the end. I didn't have enough memory on my phone to record his canter. I can vouch that his walk is a good 9 verging 10

I know nothing re the breeding side... but what I see I Like... such a cracker... a real little bit of something about him... basically, he is a ponse :D He is going to be lovely, and I love a nice compact horse... you know what I mean... one that makes a square shape with its legs and back and not an oblong :D Never easy to tell how a baby will end up but I smiled throghout the video and that can only be a good thing :D

Personally I think the little dandy needs a feather boa to strut his stuff with... he can then pair up with my boy :D He is super cute.... lots of presence and attitude. Do keep us updated! x

I am not a fan he looks a bit thick through the gullet to me, has long hind cannon bones and weak hamstrings, I am not however vastly experienced with young stock and what the end product will look like.

I'd like to see him walked and trotted straight from and towards the camera. Maybe there is anothe video.....?

Sorry, I didn't take anymore videos as the memory ran out on my phone.

Here's the video of him going through the sales in Verden

He's cute but for me, he leaves his back end a long way behind him and doesn't stretch under with his hind leg. if you want him for dressage this may make him hard to collect.

I know nothing (well very little) about sports horse foals but I like him :) I think you ought to ask people with experience in this area- pming a few people who breed and are involved in sports horse futuritry. If you chose to go with him- good luck ;) he's going to be massive surely?!?

What ! I don't there's a step except when he's stotting on the spot when he's not tracking up.
Op , nice mare he's out of ,nice calm vibe to her at the sales .
Very young horses are a step into the dark there no guarantees and you have to really feel something for the horse IMO to go through the years it will take to produce him.

I really like him. Like others, I would have liked to have seen his walk and canter (the canter he is displaying is 'Bambi' cantering and not his true canter). Re the long cannon bones comment - all youngsters have proportionally long cannons as these finish growing first. You cannot know at age 15 months how long a horse's cannon bones will be in proportion to the rest of it. He would not be for me though as he is going to be HUGE and I don't like riding huge horses. But I love watching them! I think this colt will be a star.

Good breeding and the fact that he was selected for the Elite auction are all good.

I do agree with Blitznbobs though that he pushes back out with his hind legs in trot. My foal did this too and it has taken a number of years training to improve this but it can be done.

Thanks Wagtail and Goldenstar. He has a brilliant over track and moves loosely IMO. And like I said, he is a big gangly baby at the moment only being at year and a half old, he has a lot of growing to do. The mare seems lovely; very calm and collected in such a big atmosphere with her baby.

I saw him in person 2 weeks ago when the video was taken and he's such a teddybear. He really loves being cuddled and fussed over, which is also a huge attribute to him.

I don't have the experience for anything constructive - but I had to chime in to say I love him!
There's definitely something about him charisma wise, good luck and keep us posted!

I like what I can see but in all the films he is on his toes so full of adrenalin I would like to see him in the flesh from those photos though as he looks like a smart colt with good breeding. He is being chased about so he is far more elevated than he would be normally and when ridden My highland pony moves like that when she has a hooly so go by your own instinct raising babies is the most rewarding thing to do but you never have a guaranteed outcome. Chose what you really like and ignore those that have different views it is you that has to live with him

I think it's a bit rude to say I'm ignoring anything I don't like. I'm taking everything on board and gathering any points I may have missed at the viewings.

It's nothing to do with tracking up it's about lowering the back end for the more advanced work esp in canter ... I'd like to see a more up and under action, as flamboyance is easier to train in a horse that really sits naturally. Buying a baby is always a gamble as they often move differently when under saddle...

He's a foal he has no reason to sit .

Sorry you misunderstood me I had no intention of being rude just saying if someone says they don't like him and he feels like your dream horse then ignore them and go with what you like I like him he looks like a good sort and if his temperament and trainability are good them He is going to be what you want. I certainly was not saying you were ignoring peoples opinion but telling you to ignore them if they did not fit with yout perceptions as you are a the one who has met him and B the one who will live with him
