Okay, I'd really appreciate some honest opinions please.

I have 2 horses, the older one has had a lot of soundness issues and I have finally called it a day with him. He has been pretty much retired to grass now.

I also have a rising 4yo. Nice sort, but has had a massive growth spurt over the winter and is currently very weak. Therefore this year he willl be bought on very slowly to allow him to strenghten up.

So I find myself coming into yet another summer with nothing to really compete.

I am having massive withdrawal symptoms and have been debating a couple of options.

In an ideal world I'd really like to find a nice horse on loan that I could PN/OPN for the summer. Now in reality I am sure these are few and far between!!!

Alternatively would be more than willing to put time and effort into bringing on a horse for someone, I would happily do this for free but in this instance wouldn't want to cover the horses costs.

Or I could buy a project for 2.5K'ish to bring on for the summer and sell at the end, tbh not really sure I want to own a 3rd horse though.

So do you think it would be possible to find a more experienced horse to loan/compete for the summer or am I just dreaming?!

You will be very lucky to find something to loan / compete I would have thought. Ask around and network a bit in your area. I would think your best option is going to be to buy a project horse.

You should speak to Bossanova, her Mustard is for sale and would be a great project for someone who has time.

You need to look at adverts where someone is going to Uni and needs to sell, they may just loan it but I do think it will be difficult to find something just for the summer

Thanks both, yes, I would be very lucky if I found something to compete just for the summer!
Buying a project is probably my best option!
Mustard is very cute but I have the feeling he is a teeny horse, he would get a shock having to carry my lard around!

Ah, you didn't specify size

I really hope you find something but I'll keep my ears open. Where are you in the country?

I can' sell one currently as she is 13yo this year. she is fit, low milegae (she was forgotten in a field for 5 years.and ready to come out at intro now). I am just about to register her myself to have some fun - feeling v.v.v pessimistic that I will ever find a new home for her! What I am trying to say is there are horses out there cheap and ready to go!

I think that you should advertise on horsequest in the eventers section for a horse on loan to compete and just see what happens.... you never know!!
I just think that there are so many horses out there that people do not have the time/money for....

Failing that -There are bargains to be had out there, Woody was one of them, at around the price that you mentioned, and look how fab he is!!
