She would need a lot of work wouldnt she, but theres no reason why she shouldnt be able to do a decent dressage test tbh.

A lto of dressage horses are sharp and quirky. Watch the top competitors warming up etc and see how many of them look like hell to ride

She's well built and intellignet I don't see why she shouldn't make the change very well. Since she seems to enjoy herjumping I'd guess she need to do some of that occasionally just to keep her sweet.

Main thing you need with a dressage horse is for it to be infront of your leg and it looks like you're onto a winner there. Have a go and have fun.

I think she will make a super dressage pony, I would just think about slowing the front end down and making the back end quicker, through half halts and a tap with the leg at the same time.

Have fun and welcome to the 'other side'

Have a go, at least then you will get comments to work on,

She looks like she is reluctant to work round your inside leg, so she needs to become more supple longitudinally (over topline) and laterally (side to side), then she will be able to work over her back, which will improve quality of paces and gives you a starting point from which you can ask for more engagement in the future.

I would disagree a little about trying to make the back end quicker, as until she is working over a softer back, trying to increase the pace or power or activity behind could lead to resistance

I know there is lots to improve on, appreciate the advice. Have been concentrating on getting her working my inside leg - she does know how to, she does it fantastically in JO!

I am still going to let her have fun, fun rides, Trec and some hunter trials, but would like her to go and produce a 'nice' test!

She is advertised for sale, but think it might take a while to find her the right home, so dressage it is in the meantime!

Having dressage lessons is a good thing. It will not only make her paces more even & smooth but you both can go & have some fun doing a few tests. The lessons will also help to improve your showjumping. It will make her better balanced & her approach to a fence & from a fence will be better. She will turn round your leg easier...infact everything will improve. Showjumpers, as a whole, do not put enough emphasis on flatwork as they should.

Good Luck with everything.

Why are you selling her? I think most horses can do a nice dressage test. I took dressage lessons last winter on my SJ just to improve his flat work and get some more 'gears'. THe first thing I told the lady was that I never wanted to do a test. So yes I ended up doing dressage, even an elementary, so you should do great.

Have fun - but don't give up the bling!

Only selling as she is too sharp for me when it comes to jumping, I need a confidence giver - and she loves to jump - I've had a couple of unlucky landings andd broken both legs SJing, over the last 18mths!

Hello!!!
grin.gif
You know I love May...she's a real "red-head"! From seeing that short video clip (have you any more from a side angle?) she definitely has the paces and the potential to do some very nice tests. She needs to be a little more submissive and rounder (or softer, whichever you prefer), but she seems to be nice and forward, but just needs containing and holding together in front!
Why are you selling her?

Hello Iestyn! How is your collar bone now? And the lovely Pulsaar?

Well, as you know I came off AGAIN, and broke my other leg

Which fortunately has healed very quickly! (only did it 9 weeks ago!) But as far as the jumping is concerned she is too sharp for me, when I'm confident and ride positively, its all fine, we do really well but as soon as I have a wibble it all goes wrong, she is so sensitive!

But I really can't afford to break any more bones. I've not lost any confidence riding, been to the beach, done a Bhs Trec comp and hacking etc this last few weeks and been fine, also popped her round a clear round at valients on Tuesday - but very wary when it comes to SJ. And you know how much she loves to jump. If I can get her to do a nice dressage test then I will keep her, and get one of the girls from the yard to take her out jumping every couple of weeks.

We have a really good bond now, and she is so good for me to clip, catch, load, hack, good in the stable etc - so I would only let her go if I found a really good home for her.

So will persevere with the dressage for now
