Wanted to get peoples thought (and please be honest as I know we have a long way to go!). The first picture shows my horse just before I got him when he was still racing - and you can see in this how bad a ewe neck he had. I have been working on him for over a year now and although he still looks like a giraffe half the time I am hoping that his muscle conformation has improved - thoughts?

One word WOW! He is a credit to you, he looks in great condition, he has really 'made-up.

His neck is much improved, he is a little short and upright through the neck but this is something you can't change.

His neck topline looks quite uniform and even, although it is quite hard to see.

I presume you have done lots of long and low so the next logical step would be to ask him to work in a more advanced outline and consistently working off the forehand and stepping through, this will naturally work the neck muscles and help him develop a more muscled neck.

Great work though he looks fab!

4get prev post, ive just read your blog!very interesting and i look forward on your progress. Was he really going to the meat man???? hes gorg! is he sound now hes not racing??

Yes he was going to the meat man - probably not a very sensible reason to take on a horse

He is completelty sound now. I chucked him in a field for a year after I got him (and after his box rest) and the plan is to start with dressage and move eventually to evening. The main obstacle to get over though is how excited he gets when he sees other horses (he is the only horse I know that shoots up the lorry ramp likes hes going to a party!). I am beginning to wonder if the British Dressage rules allow us to use blinkers

Loads better - and no, not the only one - mine was sold as doesn't load, doesn't travel - now you have to be very quick with him if anyone has a lowered ramp on the yard as he is up it like a rat up a drainpipe!

OMG !! Cannot beleeeeeveee that they raced him in that condition- he looks soo weak and pathetic! God!How on earth would he have been able to even do a mere canter for more than 10 furlongs looking like that! the poor thing no wonder he went lame. I mean look at him now! He is a proper substantial type of TB ! He looks FAB well done you- a super type, looks really muscular and well.

He looks super! really really well, and sooo attractive

Great to know he enjoyed his racing career, but even better to see him looking so very well, now.
