Honestly, would I be too big for....

I think you'd be fine. The only way to find out is to go and try her.

You are the same height and weight as me. I personally wouldn't like to ride anything as small but it depends how you feel about riding ponies. You wouldn't be too heavy and it's really up to you whether you felt too tall riding her. I know plenty of adults who ride ponies and they won't ride anything else!

She looks lovely. Why don't you try her out? If you feel right on her then go for it!

I don't think you'd be too heavy but probably too tall, sorry!

Dont be sorry, thats fine. Tis what I thought. Sounds gorgeous though.

I'm more seriously looking for another one, just to do a bit of everything on. Would love another one to show too. Josie did really well last year.

Hmm, back to the drawing board, or....put the pony on stilts????

Yes, you would look under-horsed. 13.2s are children's ponies, with the exception of proper chunkies. She would probably be strong enough to carry you, but why not just get one the right size for you?

I looked at her advert as soon I will be looking for a pony for my 12 y/o son which I can also ride - I'm 5'4" and weigh 9 stone. But I was worried that son would outgrow her too quickly, he's only a couple of inches shorter than me. But she does look lovely and genuine.

I only do ponies too, am 5'5 and between 9.5-10st so about the same.

But I would ride something like this for a friend or occasionally but would certainly not consider to buy it for myself (Frank is 14.2)

I honestly cant find one!

It has to be super safe on roads, and hack out alone. I haven't got oodles of money, I'd also like it to be able to show.

All the ones I've seen are either 16.3, too big for me to feel confident, or will only hack in company, or are about 17 years old

SuperStarX on here is 5ft 8 and rides a 13.3hh fell - she looks fine on him! I guess you can go and try - you are not heavy so see how you feel.

I'm 5ft 8 and ride a 14.3/15hh connie!

Going back a few years when i was the same height and weight as you I used to loan a 13.2h pony and he carried me fine and I didn't feel out of balance at all on him.He was around the same sort of build. However my sons 13h pony was totally different.I couldn't do more than walk and trot on her as I felt far too tall and unbalanced on her. The only answer is to go and try her and see how you feel. I am now a stone heavier and about an inch taller than you and my horse is just about 15h with shoes on and I feel fine on him.

i think it really is just a case of trying before buying lol!! my highland is 13.2hh which is fine for me, i'm only 5"1' i was so nervous when i decided to move onto horses and well abbys 16.2/3hh. the first time i rode her i didnt think i would feel safe at all but as soon as i got on her i felt totally fine.

i dont think its always the height it's the horse in question, u could get on a 13.2hh and it could be a total crazy moo!! but u could get on a 16.2hh and be as safe as houses
smile.gif

it all just depends. really hope u find something nice

I think you might be too tall too. She looks quite narrow so your legs will hang down further.

I ride a 14.1 pony and am 5'4, but he's rather round so my legs end up in the right place ... and I also have stumpy legs lol!!

Go and have a look at her though ... you might be a perfect match!!

my 4 yo is a 13.3 vanner and im 5ft 10
blush.gif
. I know he will grow a little bit more but already carrys me very easily.
I do feel big on him but love riding him he is so safe and already takes my legs up ok. I have a long body too so figure I look big on most horses!
Your not heavy but just depend if you will feel comfortable?

Lovely pony but your the same size as me but half a stone more and I know for sure I'd look huge on him, plus its not like he's a stocky vanner or Welsh cob/MM type as sometimes you can get away with it, both weight wise and looks.

Can't blame you liking him though.
smile.gif

She looks a similar type to Pip, you have probably seen pictures of 5'4 me on him, too tall
tongue.gif
But she wouldn't stuggle with your weight. Can't say she stikes me as anything special
crazy.gif

Mine is on horse and hound and he hacks out alone and he isn't even in his teens and is very safe lol keep looking and find the right one for you

I agree i am an inch taller and i ride a 15hh and any thing over 15.2hh i don't like as feel over horsed so its personal preference

When did 13.2's become classed as childrens ponies?! That means I must get rid of my Sec C straight away (who certainly isn't 'proper chunky') for something the 'right size' as I'm not a kid or under 5ft...what ever that may be.

I think she's just a little bit too small for you, what a shame she looks lovely. I ride my 13.2 hh, but she is chunkier than this one, I weight about 9st 2lb and am 5'3" tall. Because my pony is chunky she takes up my leg, but also she has a weight carrying build.

I think she looks over priced tbh and i'm 5'4" and 8 stone and i have a 14.1 and feel perfectly happy on him but i ride two 13.2's and i don't feel any where near as secure, there's a big difference in 13.2's and 14.2's i think. I also quite happily ride 17hh plus horses though, have you tried bigger horses or do you rule them out immediately? it might be worth trying cos you may find you really click with one that is slightly bigger than you'd have liked

Well, I used to have nothing under 15.3, then lost every ounce of confidence I had on a 16hh ISH who liked to stand on her back legs and wave at people.

I then got my little Joise, 14.3, who has restored all my confidence and more.

So I guess thats why I'm stuck on the hight thing. Does that make sense?

I think you shouldn't listen to ANYONE on this thread! I reckon just go and try it and go from there.

You are clearly not too heavy, so it is all about how comfortable you are with the pony and how comfortable the pony is with you.

I don't like the phrase 'the right size' that people have used on here. I am 12 stone and nearly six foot. I love riding both my horses - one 17hh and one 14.3! I think it is all about how you feel.
