Honesty what’s your horse like to ride

flint- doesnt hack out on his own, can be quite nervy even with company, spins and sometimes threatens to rear. quite flighty. likes to jog (i always get stich) as for schooling, coming on very nicely, although i dont trust alot of people to ride as he has an attude of my way or the high way. when he works well its great when its bad it can make you cry. LOVES jumping, can pull and race at fences but with his flat work getting better each week so is his jumping.

Pidge is safe to ride never bucks or rears
grin.gif
he gets very keen jumping but we're working on that
smirk.gif
fine to hack out in company or alone but can spook at birds (imagine bambi on ice and you get the picture) and will spook at canter if in the lead as he can be a woos! not a novice ride IMO

Ellie- typical chestnut mare! perfect hacking- if in company has to go in front because she is so bossy, hacking on our own she goes ok for a while then gets a notion to go home and will rear and walk backwards then will eventually go forward though in a very sulky way!!Amazingly brave and mannerly out hunting and doing x country- point and jump, goes first or last, absolutely brilliant but its so obvious that she loves it you can almost see her smiling!!ive hunted her for nearly 6 years now and have never fallen off her yet-she is so careful and safe id send my granny out hunting on her!!Showjumping-well she is abit crazy at competetions- big careful jump however tends to get abit over excited and jumps at speed never knocks anything down but stopping her is a problem!!Her schooling leaves alot to be desired she either goes really slow and sluggishly or whips off bucking and plunging because i think she finds it so boring!!Of course being a typical horse she always makes a liar of me and whenever my trainer rides her or gives me a lesson she acts so perfectly that he thinks i make all her bad behaviour up!!though she is currently being schooled by professional -i rode her last night and was amazed at how well she was going her flatwork was so perfect i was considering taking up dressage!if i had to sell her (it would never happen of course!) i would have to advertise her as "not a novice ride" because she is so bold at times!!!Though she has the sweetest temperment on the ground and has been trained to kiss in exchange for a carrot it is so cute!!

Rosie:oh god im a glutton for punishment-another chestnut mare!!she is 14.2hh top class jumping pony though the stupidest horse i have ever come across and has spent weeks at a time out of work because she mysteriously gets herself into all sorts of scrapes!!Her forte is jumping- very scopey and brave she is ideal eventing pony if it wasnt for her abominable flatwork!!she does try god bless her but she needs intensive schooling- hopefully il have the time for it when the summer comes in!!she is also bit of an idiot out hunting-quite young so this was her first season-she tended to hare off at a crazy gallop barging in front of people at ditches etc, very badly behaved!!plus is abit too careless for hunting she ended up having a few silly falls because she doesnt look before she jumps (a must do when your jumping scary ditches!) but im hoping she will improve with age!!she is being aimed at the open classes at the HT over the next few months then probably do affiliated show jumping with a local girl for the summer because im too old by about 8 years!!

Oliver is nappy and can be strong. He sometimes bucks but usually warns you first and he spooks at unfamiliar noises when in the school. He has done bunny hops but only reared once and that was not with me. He pulls horrible faces at other horses when ridden and can also be strong to lead. Those are his bad points but his good points far outweigh them! He is handsome, very easy to ride into a contact and he has nice paces. I am not a good rider but, when he is on form, he makes me look a lot better than I really am - which is good!! He can also jump so I am hoping that he will help me learn.

hector is very sharp, likes to be in front when hacking, schooling wise tends to rush and likes to be just a tiny bit behind the bit, when you make him work proberly he strops and sticks his head in the air
grin.gif

jumping wise if its in a field he is lovely, does a really nice collected canter to them, in a school - forget it
tongue.gif

really he is a bit set in his ways and as he is semi retired now i tend to just let him be,

no idea really what the new one is like yet, still getting to know him

Porridge is an all round sweetie. She is very good to hack in company but can be spooky on her own and will nap if she doesn't like the look of something, but allows you to take control and get her past (mind we DID have a hell of a prob yesterday trying to go past some metal scarecrow things, we had an amazing power trot eventually tho LOL!)

To school she is pretty tricky because she has a hell of an inflexible jaw and she does need riding into a contact - she can be very lazy in the school, as in not in front of the leg, but I think spurs will sort that out. Her canter is not good
smirk.gif
YET!

Jumping, she is awesome BUT she needs schooling to learn to WAIT!

Syd sounds very like Hector, he loves to be in front on a hack, he goes in a huff if made to be at the back and slowly creeps to the front again, a bit like a white van man. He's very brave out hacking and will go past scary things while the others hang back until he's gone first.

Schooling he's pretty good but a bit speedy until you settle him down and he realises he's got to do it properly. Jumping he loves but again can be a bit too keen, xc/jumpcross he really enjoys he locks onto the next fence and only requires steering.

My only problem is that my 14 yo daughter doesn't like riding him and vice versa. Even in walk he's got his head up and you can see the whites of his eyes. So that's disappointing but I don't want to push it since neither of them are relaxed with each other.

Godfrey horse is generally very brave under saddle, will lead out hacking, not spooky although insists on jogging EVERYWHERE. CAn be strong and stubborn. Scholing he finds hard work still, so can get stubborn and pig headed, but he is very well balanced for a babe, and very sensitive. Have to check myself if there are any probs, as generally it will be because am blocking him somewhere. I enjoy riding him though, he is easy for a babe if yu ride him properly, but makes you work for it!! I am very lucky overall, and look forward to his hjumping to catch up with his flatwork!

well there is two sides-the gorgeous in the school zak where you would think butter wouldnt melt-very responsive, but you have to know how to ride him, when you do he has three fab paces. Then there is the fizzed up maniac!well hes not that bad but unbelievably strong, and gets vv exited when jumping,as soon as you hold on to the reins he starts getting silly. but i love him to bits and he is the best ever xc horse-charges and leaps over anything. If you get to know him like i do and know you wont fall off it is brill!very scopey when he wants to be and he is being sensible!and also one of the fastest horses i have ever ridden-extremely fun to ride-wouldnt change him for the world!!

she has her moments. but the word that describes her best is
***FUN***
whatever she does, whether she is behaving or not, she always brings a big fat smile to my face!
grin.gif

Ghia - Have only ridden her once when I went to try her. Shes at home with my dad riding her til the summer holidays and I am at home

Tufty - My dad's horse. Very lazy and very backwards. But is obedient (sp). He can do a nice novice test but you both come out exhausted. He has the ability to jump 3'6 but he is happy at 3 foot when he can see where he is putting his feet.

Bailey is super hacking alone or in company-never spooks! Only thing I'd say is if the rider got tense and held onto him he would jig jog, but if you leave him be he's perfect-along all busy main roads aswell
smile.gif
! Easy to stop when cantering and happily go behind if needs be.

SJ-He's brilliant, will help you out as much as he can and if we ever have a fence down its my fault
tongue.gif
so careful/scopy and brave!

XC-Absoulte dude! Havn't done a great deal but never gets strong or silly and jumps bravely.

Dressage-Could do with a bit more work as can get a little tense, but once worked for a while he chills and is very good!

Hunting(Auntie took him)-very good boy jumped everything only thing is was a bit impatient when they all had to stand :P

Love my dude

!

Anyones ride in the school (although don't expect her to work properly, unless you ask). Can be spooky out hacking especially if squirrels, sparrows or rabbits around, but generally brilliant when on the road. Will jump up to 2'6" with anyone, but will jump bigger with a more competent rider.

It's been so long now, I've forgotten! He's broken
frown.gif

He was a very safe and sensible sort to ride. Bit cheeky and stubborn to handle from the ground (but secretly wouldn't have him any other way). Would jump anything you pointed him at, but in his own time! Never had a pole down.

Hated doing dressage at home, but would pull out all the stops at shows.

Hacked perfectly alone or in company, tho likes to make faces at the other horses if they get into his "personal space".

I miss riding him so much

Lady has a lovely canter, horrid choppy trot, prone to getting excited, napping bucking - does a real twister of a buck that makes my spine crunch, reasonably brave, spooks at silly things.
Fudgy, nice walk comfy trot, bombproof in company, hates schooling, nervous alone, canter like a rubber ball

Totally genuine man. Bombproof on road and safe but not boring anywhere else. Has a tidy pop and rarely stops. Fab XC and pulls up to the voice out hunting, but has spavin so takes ages to warm up in school. Tries his best to please when he's warmed up. Wouldn't swap even though he moves like a camel.

Sparky

Schooling: If she's in the mood, fabulous; huge canter departs, clean tempis and a big but comfy trot. If she doens't want to play ball, tense and thinks bucking is pretty much what is asked for with canter aids
smirk.gif

Jumping: SJs - Great until we hit 1.30, then she chickens out (or perhaps I chicken out...one of us does!) XC/HT/TC - She'll jump anything, including trying things that she must know aren't physically possible...

Hunting: Best hunter I've ever sat on, manners to burn and is happy to take her own line.

Hacking: "Forward"...and about once every 3/4 months she'll throw in a random rear to keep you on your toes

Bob

Showing & Dressage: Shines, knows he's in the ring to do a job and gets on with it....evenb when he's bucked you off in the warmup
blush.gif

Hunting: You're doing well if he's got more than one foot on the ground

Hacking: See above

Typical ex riding school horse in school, can be a dream hacking, or does a bucking bronco, loves jumping out hacking but get excited

is novice ride for everyone but me
