I'm leaving at the end of summer to spend 3 months in Hong Kong which is very exciting however I shall be sad to be horse-less for so long. Does anyone know what riding/equestrian possibilities there are in Hong Kong? (Perhaps some of you HHOers have been there/lived there yourselves?)

J1ffy would be good to message! There are 3 public riding school with long waiting lists but a few private ones too that are accessible. Clearwater bay, IRC..and more. There is an active RDA if you fancy thinking about volunteering too.

Weird - I rarely come into the Tack Room but I did today and spotted this! I was in HK for three years and did a lot of riding and competing (take a look at some of my old threads for a few comp reports). Do you know where you will be living?

There is some info here: http://www.hkef.org and a list of riding stables here: http://www.hkef.org/?page_id=44. The HKJC-run ones have long waiting lists for beginners but you'll be fine if you are an experienced rider. Tuen Mun has the best facilities of the public HKJC stables. They do tend to be quite formal though, and put running reins and flash nosebands on all horses as standard (I particularly disliked the running reins...).

I used to ride at International Riding Centre (IRC) and had an excellent dressage-focused instructor there. She has a few horses that she has re-trained herself in a classical, sympathetic manner. If you send me a PM I'll send you her details (she has good English!). IRC is also very laid-back - I used to take my dogs with me and they gave me keys so I could ride before work, neither of which would have happened at the HKJC centres!

Lo Wu has a good reputation as well. Lucemoose will know more about Clearwater Bay. Along with IRC they regularly send horses and riders to the HKEF competitions. The other riding stable, TTLV, doesn't seem to compete and I don't know much about them.

Drop me a PM if you'd like to know more!
