Apart from the high humidity does HK suffer the same air pollution as Beijing? I was thinking that in the long run the horses may be better off there than in China with all the pollution the humans have to suffer.
I think so. I've been to both Beijing and Hong Kong, although I went to Beijing in the winter, but both places suffer really badly from pollution. It's not helped by the fact that Hong Kong is situated closer to the equator so it gets much hotter than Beijing. My family are from the outskirts of Hong Kong and the air is suppose to be cleaner there. But Sha Tin, which is where the Olympics are being held, is more inland and in the Kowloon district, where most of the traffic and pollution builds up. While Hong Kong may have good equestrian facilities, Beijing is situated, I think a little higher than Shanghai, and Shanghai is on the same latitude line as Britain. While pollution might be more or less the same, the temperatures probably won't be quite as hot. But I remember hearing the reason they've held the horse Olympics in Hong Kong was to minimise the spread of disease. I just hope the horses don't feel the heat too much!
Sha Tin has a racetrack so probably better set up and ready for horses than Beijing. I've been to both cities in June and the latter was not as hot or humid. However, this was in 1994 and there were far more bikes than cars in Beijing!
