Hoof abscess and loosing the poultice!

Had the farrier out a few days ago as my horse had an abscess, called my vet who were happy for farrier to do this.
However I am struggling to keep the poultice on! He has odd shaped feet so hoof boots don't fit (I've tried 2makes) I've put on plenty of duct tape, tried feed sacks an old canvas boot and he just keeps getting them off!
Spoke to my vet who said they weren't to concerned as not a deep hole (we have very dry fields no mud) and to just hot tub twice a day to keep clean.
I'd still prefer to poultice just need a way to make it stay on so does anyone have any tips or anything else I could do to try and get the poultice to stay on?!

I use nappies, vet wrap and duct tape, so very similar to what you have tried, I know how much of a nightmare it can be so feel for you. Just make sure you overkill on the duct tape and plenty of padding over the shoe.

Making it too bulky can mean that there is more for the horse to pull off. I cut a piece of animalinex to required size, breast pad, vetwrap or similar then plenty of silage tape. It makes a neat little shape then. Only had one come off ever.

Are you taping it up high enough? To stand any chance of keeping them on I find I need to take the tape up to the pastern so that the whole hoof is covered in a sort of boot arrangement. A strip of gamgee around the coronet band protects it from too much pressure being applied.
