Mare (who has been on box rest for other lameness) had a foot abscess about 4 weeks ago, cleared up nicely, she was assessed by vet for her other problems and was found to be sound.
Monday morning she took a hop out of her stable and I thought uh-oh, thats what you did before....she is still looking sore so vet coming tonight. She isn't so much lame (although its hard to tell as she is on box rest and only walks as far as 10 metres at a time) but looking sore and is decidely grumpier than usual, which is exactly what she did before.
If it is an abscess, its going to completely screw up things as she is due to go the RVC on Monday for an independant opinion for the insurance. If she doesn't go then its going to be another month before she can go again.
Is there anything I can do to prevent it, although I guess its probably a reccurance from the original one? The original one wasn't associated with any nail holes and was very deep. Vet did comment that she had wonderfully hard hooves too so puzzled as to why she has developed 2 in a month when she has never had one before.
Any ideas greatfully appreciated!
