Hoof boot help, please!

Horse now barefoot as of this morning, and I want to order some boots for him - his feet are wider than they are long - any recommendations for this?

I can seek advice over the phone tomorrow, but just wondered if anyone has ideas.

(143mm wide and 139mm long inn one foot, 135 in the other - in case anyone is interested enough/had had similar sizing.)

You might get away with a pair of Easyboot Backcountries, but would be at the top of the "Wide" fitting. They are more generous in fitting than the sizings suggest and are great boots.

However I would suggest that as your horse's feet will probably change shape very quickly, work out what size boots you need and search eBay and Preloved (and the Facebook group Hoof Boots for Sale in the UK) for second hand ones. Otherwise you can end up with brand new boots that only get a few weeks wear before you need smaller ones (it's usually smaller ;) ).
Have a look at HoofBootique - they have a huge range of boots and size guides for all of them. I would recommend them when you're wanting to buy new boots, their service is excellent (I got my lovely Renegades from them).
 
Thank you, that's really helpful - I'll find the Facebook group, and perhaps worth investigating hiring them from Hoof Boutique. And will investigate the 'Easyboot's!
 
Just looked at them - it says their wide ones are up to 141mm wide - I realise we're talking tiny measurements here but if wider than their measurements suggest, do you think that would be ok? Having never used them before, I have no idea! - thanks!
 
Liz at hoof boutique is very helpful, bought my cavallos and second hand renegades from there, although I've lost my renegades ATM :(
 
Thank you, think I'd best give her a call tomorrow and seek advice. A whole new world of shoe shopping...!! - and it would seem that my horse has slightly awkwardly shaped feet....

After years of plain, practical black boots, my horse finally grew hooves that would fit into Renegade boots... so I saved up for about a year and bought a pair in snazzy red. When my friend heard how much they'd cost, she christened them his "Loubootins" :D

(BTW we were the same - shoes off, only boots that fitted were Old Macs. Then feet got a bit smaller, and Easyboot Gloves got a bit bigger, so we got them. Then the feet got a bit neater again, and the Renegades fit! I am pretty sure he now has the hooves he's going to keep, and fortunately lots of manufacturers are now making boots to fit. To begin with, all hoof boots seemed designed for endurance Arabs!
The Easyboot Backcountries are surprisingly forgiving in fit, but the best thing to do is to hire a fit kit and try them on :)
 
Cavallo simples fit a wide foot, are cheap and cheerful and a good easy to use first boot. They are also good for transitioning as you can use them with thick pads.
 
Great, thank you - will get some ordered asap as I need to keep him moving as much as possible as he is looking a bit 'portly' as my saddler pointed out yesterday, hoping he'll be ok lunging and walking out in hand (on grass) until the boots arrive!
 
My boy had his shoes off 2 weeks saturday and is struggling right now. Walking out pretty well on tarmac and arena but really struggling over stones. I hoped I'd get away with just front boots but his hinds seem to be suffering worse (proud frog) and so I'm waiting for Liz to get back to me so I can get some boots for the back as I'm desperate to get going again.

So if you're reading Liz, please answer your email - you've got desperate customers out here! ;)
 
Hoping I won't need two sets of boots... thought this was the economical approach ;-)

Luckily can avoid gravel and stones and still get plenty of hacking so hoping we'll be ok!

Even if you need two pairs it is still economical! They last ages! I bought two pairs 1yr 9mths ago and haven't needed to replace them yet. At £75 a pair I have definitely saved!
 
Well at least they fit - good start! The pastern wraps that came with them seem too small, though, which I can't quite work out as they were sized the same as the boots...?
