Will try to keep this brief!
I have a 14.2hh cob x mare who has high and low ringbone in all 4 feet. She also tore her suspensory ligament in near fore and damaged collateral ligament in off fore. She has been shod all round by a quality remedial farrier based on her x-rays, conformation and movement and towards the end of last year after extensive rehab was sound (or as sound as she'll ever get!)
She's been off games over winter with liver disease and lyme disease but I am crossing everything that our next set of bloods come back showing an improvement and I can start working her.
Still with me?!
She had her hind shoes off last summer but she toe drags and squared her hind feet off that much that within 2 weeks she had them back on. She's on a low sugar/starch diet already as also has ems.
She's now had hinds off again for about 3 weeks so far and I'd quite like to keep them off. Our hacking is exceptionally stoney so not very bf friendly.
However as she'll have to go through fittening rehab all over again it should work well with bf transitioning I hope? (Fronts are staying on for now, dependant how we go aim will be to take them off too if she copes)
However, the boots I've looked at look quite clumpy, will boots be an option given as she toe drags? (Toe dragging much improved since last summer and is/was rare once she was fitter) or can we go without boots?
Asking now as I don't want to be in the same position I was last year when we took her hinds off again if I do get the all clear to ride again.
Sorry, it did turn into an essay after all!
