hoof boot quick questions

Please could someone tell me:
roughly how long they last,
how much to expect to pay,
any good brands
and are they difficult to get the right fit.

It depends how often and how far you ride, mine are still going well after two years, but that's with about one hack a week.

I use Old Mac G2 - cost about £130.00 per pair. I picked these boots because they are the right shape for my horses feet - look on the Eastcare website for info on various boots, although there are plenty of others too. Search hoof boots on here - loads of threads will come up!

boot choice depends on what you want to do and hoof shape.

For a horse which is rehabbing, transitioning or largely hacks Cavallos are a good choice and can be found for £85 complete with gel pads and gaiters if you are internet search savvy.

For competitive horses many prefer EasyCare Gloves or Renegades

There is a lot of choice today - good fit is essential - get someone with experience to help you with that.

I've had my cavallos for a year and were used everyday for about 2 months solid. I still used them regularly over stony hacks through grass growing season as he needed them. I admit I don't need them as much now but they are far from worn yet and I'll be needing them in the spring.

I paid £85 for pads and gaiters.

Different boots are available for different hoof shapes so make sure you get it right.

hi im on my 3rd pair,its very trial and error but my chap has fairly round shaped fronts and i found that the easy boots are best for him,if you can borrow some to try i would suggest you do as it gets very expensive otherwise,i was lucky i found mine on ebay so didnt spend to much you often find used ones on there so works out much cheaper,if i had brought new i would of spent about 350 in the process!!
its very important to measure correctly!!!my chaps been barefoot about 3 months now and i would never go back to shoes as the change in him is incredable!!!!good luck.
