Hoof Boots: least bulky & quickest to put on/take off-whats new?

That's all I really do at the minute but I'll think I'll have a look into those suggested over the next few months to look at replacing them. I was worried about rubbing but even though he's normally a wussy tb they have been fine. I only had 2 weeks for him to get used to them before I took him on a pre booked holiday and he took to them like a duck to water so we just carried on with them 😊

cappucino toe first is an indication of heel pain/issues, no thrush? or structure issues? Frank rapidly makes his Right and Left boots because he rolls off the outsides of his toes.

No vet can't find any reason, not pain related. I suspect it is more his conformation, and just wondered if any particular boots might help. Looking at remedial farrier work, though he's off work atm for a different reason :(

I have posted up photos of my horses feet prior to our journey going barefoot, in the Veterinary and Hoof Care section. Please take a look and you will see what I mean about struggling with finding the right size to fit these feet!

Loving the equine fusions atm... no rub, good fit. Not lost one although one twists a bit as she dishes. Rather that than a twisted hoof if she were shod... can you imagine :O

paddy how do the velcro straps on the renegades cope with getting very wet and muddy? .

surprisingly they do. I ride daily and in winter (or even summer at this rate) they come home caked in mud each day and have to be washed. I have livened up the velco with the dog brush a couple of times but they do work. They also come with a spare pair of straps so you can put new ones on.

I think for the moment I will have to "dream" of Renegades or Gloves, due to the heel situation. Definitely the Equine Fusion are sounding to be the best bet and the ones Alex used for her horse with under run heels. And the good thing is they aren't looking too bulky or difficult to put on/take off. But I might only need them for a short while, so would prefer to buy secondhand rather than new to start with? Hoof Boutique I guess only sells new boots?

this is the reason I would never use cavallos, old macs or any of the others with poor breakover. I use gloves in front and renegades behind. Gloves are slightly quicker to put on than renegades as only one fastening, however if they fit tight gloves are slightly harder to get on and need a mallet whereas the renegades open out to put the foot in. The fastenings on the renegades are slightly more fiddly pushing the strap through 2 loops. I find the renegades take around 5 seconds longer than the gloves to put on.

Interesting about the rollover. I've just bought a pair of Cavello Treks as they fitted my pony's hoof shape and size the best and I was pleased that there were no rubs after a 2 hour hack. My intention is to get some Renegades in future but at the moment don't have £200 spare for a pair and they don't come up often second hand!

I always think there is a reason they don't come up 2nd hand though ;)

I would hire some if I wanted to use boots more often, but do have one prone to rubbing so knowing he can wear the gloves for 6 odd hours (including a stop at the pub ;) ) for 2 days and not get a rub is a big draw for me. I just find they dont grip as well at speed if the hoof gets swamped and ends up wet and muddy but I should try their zinc oxide tape trick for that.

paddy thanks for that info re the velcro, it was always a bit of a pondering of mine as I think most boots were originally designed with somewhat drier climates in mind. Ah yes, summer, remind me again :p. As rara007's pony disappeared to hocks last week I was rather hoping I wasn't going to have to go hunting for a boot at that depth (thankfully they always stay on at that point!)
