so....my irish tb is in need of some hoof boots! but where do i start???
he wears aluminium shoes on the front hooves for medical reasons.

however now that we have nice weather and im hacking out more, his shoes are wasteing away quite rapidly!!!!! (and we cant afford anymore than he currently has! 5 weekly is enough)

so i think hoof boots are the way to go....
but which hoof boots would be best for him as they need to accomodate his shoes and his heels arent the best (flat footed!!)

can anyone give me a start point!?! :)
and can you wear them just on the front but not the back?

Sounds like he would need boots which cover the whole hoof like cavallos or old macs, measure his hooves to find out which shape they are and go with whichever boot has the best fit.

I think cavallos are a better fit for rounder hooves, old macs better for more oval feet.

Don't know about putting them on over shoes, but having them just on the fronts is no problem, I do that with my horse. :)
Might be better to move this to veterinary and hoof care, may get more help in there.

I have the equine fusions and I have to say they are absolutely brilliant. I'd highly recommend them. They don't twist rub or come off and I ride everyday for hours over man diff terrains at all paces. They are soft like a trainer s the horses foot can still work really effectively. My mare walks as if she was born in them and they are easy to put on and take off. Speak to suze frm bitlessandbarefoot.com. Shes as good as gold and will do everything she can to help you and get them fitting correctly.
You can wear boots n the backs and fonts so you should be fine.

Not sure any of the boots suitable for riding are intended to go over shoes? I think they would wear out very fast that way. I think some of the bigger clumpier ones (e.g. the Old Mac G2s) do have notes that say they can be used over shoes for e.g. going in a trailer. You'd definitely need the more "bucket" type, so Old Mac and Cavallo are probably the ones to look at.

You might find life easier to pull the shoes and use boots instead ;)

Can I ask why does he need aluminium shoes? If I was buying boots I would be getting rid of the shoes! Most boots state that they shouldn't be worn with shoes. Not that that has to stop you but it seems like a false economy and imagine that a metal surface on a plastic base would be quite slippy and unstable for the horse.
Sorry for the negativity, just my opinion.

It is possible to wear Cavallos over shoes and some people do. Cavallo say they can't give the usual guarantee because of possible extra wear and tear. You have to adjust the sizing measurements to take into account the heel of the shoe. There is a Q&A about Cavallo boots here, including the question about fitting over shoes.
