Sorry I'm sure this has been asked before but which of the hoof boots are the best? They would be for my 13.2 welsh x. I dont want to shoe him but our tracks to and from the yard are very stoney. He is just being brought into work now for the first time too so mainly in the school which is fine its just for when we start walking out in hand a little bit more as I dont think his feet are all that strong.

Any help would be much appreciated thank you :)
 
Ones that fit! They'e not dissimilar to saddles in that respect - don't matter how much somone else like a saddle, if it doesn't fit your horse it's useless!

Which depends on his foot shape. Easyboots and the related boots are good for feet that are slightly longer than wide. Some are more suitable for very short feet, other for longer heels. Some are easier to put on than others. Renagade boots don't fit all feet either.

The 'trainer' type boots again depends on the foot shape. Boas are good for wide round feet, as a Old Mac G1's. Old Mac G2's are better for longer than wide feet. Cavallo suit round feet. They all however sit about the hair line so can't do unlimited mileage.

Also, I would wait and see how he gets on - most horses are fine on stoney track if given a bit of time to pick carefully. And getting him out as much as possible on smooth tarmac is the very best thing you can do for his feet.
 
Thanks Kallibear, you have given me alot to think about. I will get him some supplements for feet and see how he goes over the winter. I'm in no hurry to do road work just now but thought I would look into these boots rather than have him shood. x
 
I use Old Mac's G2's for my 12hh welsh x (she's a lamanitic but shoes made her worse) but as said above all ponies feet are different so you need to make sure they fit well. Mine are great and i do long distance rides and jumping with them. I have however found this year that i haven't used need them as her feet have hardened up. I do mainly hacking with a little road work and she copes fine with it.
Karatex (sp) is great for hardening hooves. Yu might find with some of this and some biotin in your feed that your pony might not need the boots at all.
 
just a note on easyboot gloves-they recommend them on feet slightly longer than wide. however, my boy has completely round feet and they were fine on him with a power strap.

thesaddleryshop do a very useful hire service and their customer service is truly excellent.
