Hoof Boots

Hi Everyone,

My wife and I have decided that our boys who are bare foot and finding some of the stony forestry tracks in our area hard on the hoof should be treated to some hoof boots so I have 2 questions for you if you don’t mind.

1) Which do you recommend (our boys are a welsh section D and a gypsy vanner cob so her has a lot of feather)

2) Do you know of anyone in the Gloucestershire area or around about that will come out with a selection to fit them? (We found one person but they are in Birmingham so bit of a trek and expense to get them down to us)

Hoofboots are like saddles. What's good for one horse isn't good for another!

I have three types in my collection. None are perfect for my pony, who has TINY feet!!

The Easyboot Epics are a pain to get on and don't seem to fit great. Grip is quite poor, too.
The Cavallos are a dream to get on, but because his feet are so small, the smallest size is still too big and they're bulky at the end of his little legs. Despite this, I still love them for their grip and ease of use, so if you have bigger horses who don't trip over their own feet, I'd recommend these.
The Easyboot gloves are also a dream to put on and cheaper if you can put the components together yourself (buy the 'glue-ons' and the gaiters separately - saves you £40 a pair). Just got these and love them for putting on, but again, the smallest size is too big for his hinds. However, that's a personal issue. On his fronts they fit perfect. The grip is good, too and I imagine they'll be useful in the snow!

The gloves have a fit kit available. You pay a deposit, receive one of each size and note which fits each foot. Then you return the fit kit and buy the boot which fits each hoof! Simples.

I use Cavallo simple boots on my Highland, they are very easy to measure for the right size and very easy to fit once you get the hang of it. I looked into different kinds of boot and came to the conclusion that Cavallo would suit her as her feet are nearly round. You could maybe buy different kinds from ebay to try, that was the route I was going to take till I discovered my friend had an old pair of Cavallos in her cupboard.
