Hi all! So I've just moved my pony to a new yard and I've hacked her twice on the horrible new roads which they Tarmac and then roll gravel over, her hooves are already worn down a bit and quite sharp which is worrying me! I wanted to get some hoof boots but have found none that will fit?! Her feet are 15cm long by 16cm wide on front and 15cm by 17cm wide on the back! Any ideas???

If I am right they are quite big feet (!) which really limits the boots you can have. If you find any please let me know, I have a large footed horse and have problems as well.

Cavallo size 5 used to my boy 16 by 16cm pads might help? I used cavallo sports on back, but can't remember size. I use renegades on fronts only now when needed he is still 16 by 16 but they do a cutback option for hooves wider then long.

There's a guide to measuring hooves for Cavallos' here -http://www.horseandmore.co.uk/articles/Measuring-Hooves-For-Cavallo-Hoof-Boots.html
Cavallo say "A Simple Boot will fit a hoof width that exceeds the length by up to one size." Size 6 Simple Boots fit up to 157mm in length, toe to buttress, so they should be right for your front hooves. They might not be right for the back, however most of the work is being done by the fronts.
Good luck!

Im not sure if the equine fusions go up to this size but I highly recommend them. They did that outside my yard and I nearly died. all the poor dogs were refusing to go over because it was so sharp. I remember thinking 'oh no my girl is never going to manage this' but eventually with the help of boots and plenty of work over the spring summer, she now goes over it totally fine and even trots it. hopefully in time your pony will adjust too

Thanks everyone :) I ordered 2 of the cavallo simple boots size 6. I will try them on front and back then order a second pair if they fit.. Argh I hope they do! The gravel roads are just horrible! Dread to think how quickly the tyres on my car will wear!! :p

Cavallos are certainly practical and easy to fit.

Is your horse actually uncomfortable over the stones, or is it just the chipping and wear? Because you might be better to just get hold of e.g. a Radius Rasp or Rider's Rasp to keep the jagged edges off the hooves - hooves need wear and stimulation and if horse is comfortable and the problem is just cosmetic, it's worth just keeping going. It's surprising how quickly chips disappear with a bit more wear, and that's what's supposed to happen :)

Hiya, she can be sensitive on gravel but it is wearing her hooves down a lot, I have her hooves rasped every 9-10 weeks as they do not grow fast. I was worried that excessive road work would leave her sore as if they have been over rasped?
