What are the best hoof boots, horse been barefoot for nearly a year, managing ok but footsore at the moment due to the wet ground looking for the best boots to tide us over till the feet harden back up.

I loved my EasyBoots and used them for years on two different horses in very wet muddy trail conditions, but also on roads. I was using the EB Bares, and found them to be easy to put on/take off after I got the hang of it. My older mare used to get a bit sore so I added sole pads to the inside too and she went very well in them then.

The best hoof boot is the one that is the shape closest to your horses foot. I used Easyboot Epics on my mare for many years, and she got on with them really well - but I cannot stress enough that you need to check the shape of your horses foot, otherwise they will twist and may even come off.

They used to have a page on the Easycare website that showed different shaped feet and which boots was the best suited, but I can't find it now! But there is just loads of info on their website.

The Saddlery Shop are very helpful with the hoof boots, and by the looks of it they have a much wider range now than when I dealt with them before. When I had boots before, they were great on the phone and always sent stuff out very quickly

Personally I liked the Easyboots as I liked having the gaiters fitted as part of the boot. But the boots themselves worked well for my mare. In addition, the Easyboots are sold individually rather than a pair, so horses with non-matching feet can be accomodated. Parts are also avaialble fairly easily for replacement as well.

Ideally you want to get someone out with a range of boots to try, it is rather like saddles and you need to find what fits your horse. If you can't get anyone out the saddlery shop were very helpful for me too when I first took mine barefoot, and you can have them on trial which saves a lot of wasted money going through different boots. Later on though his feet changed shape and became impossible to fit, I ended up with Swiss Horse Boots which are heat fitted to the hoof so great for odd shapes (though a bit of a pain to get on and off).

Ditto it will be the one that fit your horse best.

I use easyboot gloves.

The saddlery shop/ equine podiatry supplies/hoof boutique are all really helpful by all counts.
